It was Samsung earlier in the week, but here’s what Sony did in Madrid as part of their involvement in the Champions League final.

We’re surprised Sony didn’t do something similar for the World Cup, but perhaps we’re jumping the gun here a bit. Would love an invite to it if it is scheduled [hint hint].

To see it properly without it turning your eyes into holes in your head that you want to scratch out with a rusty fork, you’ll need to get a Sony 3D TV. Otherwise the rumour is that there will be a Sony 3D display area at the Cape Town stadium during the World Cup. They’ll have highlights of 25 matches, all shot in 3D for you to gawk at.

We’re sure it’s a lovely ad if you can see it Perhaps the glasses we watched Avatar with will help? Now – where did we stash those?

Sony set up a bit of an ‘egg-hunt’ in Dublin, Ireland recently in order to promote their new PS3 Slim high def game console.

As a social marketing campaign, giant eggs holding PS3 Slims were placed around the city. Those that actually had enough nerve to crack the eggs got to take home one of the new consoles. Sure beats chocolate!

Nice idea. Who would have thought that you would ever get rewarded for the destruction of someone else’s property?

After getting wind of this, gamers [world-wide] will certainly think twice about passing by any newly constructed statues, or random objects standing in the centre of town.

We’ve finally put the finishing touches to our short video that we shot at the Sony Twilight football event in Spain a couple of weeks ago. Some very nice action shots from our boys and the football was too bad either. This whole thing was shot in very fast fading light, which the XR520 camera handles remarkably well.

South Africa killed the Spanish team 18 – 3.

The all important football really only gets cracking tomorrow – so we spent a bit of time today exploring the historical port city of Malaga on the Spanish south coast.

The Sony XR520VE - nice in low-light

The Spanish visas are sorted – now just the white knuckle ride to see if our passports make it back in time from the British High Commission in Pretoria before we head to Malaga, Spain for the Sony Twilight Football event next week.

The whole point of the trip is to test drive the new Sony XR520, which is remarkably good at shooting video footage in low light – hence the football match in a bullring at dusk. So we’ll be putting together a couple of new episodes of Cherryflava TV [here's our very first one which we shot on National Braai day at Mzoli's] as part of the trip.

Apart from the low light specs of the camera it can also shoot 101 hours of sparkling HD video on its massive 240GB hard disk drive – so we won’t have to hit the delete button till we get back to SA.

On the 22nd of September [that's next week Tuesday] – 7 different games of football will be played in seven different locations around the world as part of an advertising campaign for Sony’s brand new range of low-light digital equipment. We’ve been invited to shoot and record some of the action with the new gear at the Spanish game, which is being played in a bull-ring at sunset.

Twilight Football celebrates the latest low light filming technology from Sony. All seven games will take place on 22nd September 2009, the Autumnal Equinox (northern hemisphere) and Vernal Equinox (southern hemisphere). The matches will be taking place at stunning, specially chosen locations in: Italy, France, the UK, Spain, Argentina and Australia, with the Twilight Football grand final happening at Soccer City, Johannesburg, the venue for the final of 2010 FIFA World Cup. Each match takes place in a location chosen to provide a spectacularly beautiful background for a truly unique activity.

Understandably we’re as excited as Madonna in an orphanage about it and will be documenting the trip [as invited photographers] with video and stills as we go along.

It’s a killer marketing idea and we can’t wait to get our hands on the cameras and our asses to Europe to be part of it.
