The Old Spice guy is now working for Microsoft in Australia

There’s no horse or silly bathroom routine, but instead he’s doing some light teasing for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 launch in Australia.

Thankfully – our mobile communication companies don’t need this guy.

Can you name all 26 of these films?

Goldeneye, Edward Scissorhands, Silence of the Lambs…it’s a great ad for the Guardian and Observer Film Season.

If you got them all you can enter a competition to win all of the titles on DVD here.

District 9, Borat…

ChillChileanMiners

The black eye of the two-timing miner hasn’t even begun to heal yet and already opportunistic ads are starting to emerge taking advantage of last week’s global good news story.

This time it is the Aussies who are advertising something that doesn’t appear to be beer. Odd that! Not sure what it is actually. Some kind of iced coffee which requires manliness before you smash a full carton of it against your friend’s head.

Probably the most shocking ad ever

Pies have always been filed under the ‘suspect food’ category. It’s got to do with the confusion as to exactly what type of meat they use to make them and why that meat makes you desire to jab one in your face at three in the morning after enjoying a night out with Jagermeister.

This ad just doesn’t help that confusion. Lean meat with a crusty top just isn’t the right payoff line that should be used for a pastry meat product.

Will it blend? spoofs Old Spice

Only real men know their way around a kitchen and a Blendtec blender. That’s why Blendtec have blended up a spoof of the Old Spice man to form a brand new mind blending creation.

The ‘Man smoke’ is a little worrying. Makes you wonder what they put in Old Spice. That’s probably why we use petrol as an after shave.

Will the KFC Double Down come to South Africa?

Mmmm...Tasty

Mmmm...Tasty

Perhaps it’ll be the subject of an upcoming Carte Blanche episode, ’cause some Canadians are rather concerned that the KFC Double Down has entered Canadian territory.

What is a KFC Double Down?

This new sandwich features two juicy and boneless white chicken meat filets witch comes in two types Original Recipe or Grilled, two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of pepper jack cheese and Monterey Jack cheese and of course the one and only Colonel’s Sauce. “This product is so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!” said KFC about its new sandwich.

The Double Down comes in two versions – Original Recipe with 540 calories and 32g of fat or Grilled with 460 calories and 23g fat.

Will it sell in South Africa? Ab-sa-frikken-lutely.

Should we allow it to be sold in South Africa? Without a health warning – probably not. It most likely has the same effect on your health as smoking three boxes of Camels, washed down with a bottle of Jack and half a cap of Zanex.

The new Windows phone: Helps you live in the now

On the surface of it – this new Microsoft Windows phone ad makes a whole pile of sense. Your cell phone shouldn’t distract you from the here and now. But – what are they really saying? That the phone is so boring you won’t get any joy using the thing? Unlike an iPhone that seems to have a magical ability to transform users into walking zombies, this phone is so nasty you’d actually prefer to live life as it happens before you.

Now that is scary.

Boring hits South Africa this Christmas – so if the big lunch isn’t putting you to sleep by 3pm, your Christmas present at least will.

Spotted this ad on SA TV a week ago. There is something about ads that don’t feel the need to spell it out to you – that we find particularly endearing. This is a case in point.

Gap goes back

oldgap

Folding to public pressure – Gap had decided to ditch it’s attempt to rebrand and huddle back in the warm, safe, secure hands of its old logo again. Clearly the public ridicule and private Facebook jokes regarding its new logo were too much for the company [who obviously weren't sold on their new logo themselves either].

Maybe Cell C will grab a hint from Gap and realise that comedy isn’t perhaps the best marketing hook for a business that just can’t help turning itself into a joke.

Unlogo your world

If you’re tired of being screamed at by corporate brands – fighting tooth and nail for their share of your ‘mind space’, then you may well be intersted in Unlogo.

Unlogo is a web service that eliminates logos and other corporate signage from videos.
On a poetic level, it is a tool for focusing on what is important in the record of your life rather than the ubiquitous messages that advertisers want you to focus on.
In short, Unlogo gives people the opportunity to opt out of having corporate messages permanently imprinted into the photographic record of their lives. [more]

Just precious.
