To my mind, they're tapping into the mentality that this is the time of year when most people realise that they are actually pregnant. Think about it: When are most babies conceived? Christmas holidays. Fast-forward to 4-6 weeks later, and your woman comes to tell you that she's late (and not for work). Give it a few days to sink in, and all of a sudden, that's all that's on your mind. See an ad with that theme in it, and the brand is gonna stick in your head that much more...
