Impressions of Spain: Some of our pics

Our recent jaunt to Spain wasn’t all work and no play – these are just a few of the snaps we managed to grab while walking the streets over there…
Starbucks testing new payment system via iPhone
Posted on 28. Sep, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
We’ve been going on about QR codes and their remarkable applications for m-commerce in South Africa for a while now.
Now Starbucks are using the tags as well as a new iPhone app to allow customers to pay for their coffee with their phones.
It works just like a regular Starbucks card, in that you buy credit then use it against your orders. When you want to buy a drink, turn on the app, and your screen will show a barcode. The store will scan the barcode and the dollar value of the drink will be subtracted from your purchased credit.
“Increasingly consumers are centered around their phones, and more of the functions of the wallet are migrating there,” said Ross Rubin, an analyst for the NPD Group.
Mr. Rubin said that while bar codes, like those Starbucks is using, work on a wide variety of handsets, a technology called near-field communication, which is in use in Japan, is a more realistic model for commerce, he said. Phones with near-field transmitters, which can transmit about 4 inches, are held near a terminal to complete a transaction.
Could QR code tech or proximity bluetooth tech on your phone be the store card of the future? It sure makes a whole pile of sense to us.

Loewe perfume: So good you’ll wanna pull into your knee
Posted on 28. Sep, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
Perfume is generally socially acceptable, but according to this bus shelter poster that we spotted in Spain, Air Loco by Loewe could leave you home alone but very much in love with yourself.
Seems like it’s a powerful stimulant that should come with a government warning.
‘Mantyhose’: Pantyhose for men?!

Blast from the Past
Either Seinfeld’s ‘Bro’, or ‘Manzier’ concept has just been taken to the next level, or once again fashion has reverted back stylistic trends from the past. Perhaps it’s a bit of both?
Enter London’s winter trend for 2009 ‘Mantyhose’, made by lingerie brand, Unconditional.
Loeries 2009: I’m a winner
Posted on 28. Sep, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
So we cracked the nod to attend the Loerie awards on Saturday night at the Good Hope centre. Sporting a ‘press pass’ we weren’t granted the pleasure of being allowed an actual seat at the event – so we parked ourselves next to a lady with a rag who’s job it was to wipe the floor dry as the Cape rain merrily made its way through the roof.
Sony Twilight football: All the action from Anteguera
Posted on 25. Sep, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
After a 25-hour mega transfer from Spain, we’re back.
The actual Sony Twilight football event that we attended took place in a bullring in the historical town of Antuguera about an hour out of Malaga.
The football game itself was set up in the middle of the bullring with an all-star South African outfit taking on a local Spanish rock band. Understandably with the likes of Mark Williams [ex-Bafana bafana African nations cup winner] and the sports guy from Etv in the South African team – it wasn’t really a contest. South Africa drilled the Spanish 18-3.
They could have put more past them, but they went to Club Duvet in the second half and only scored 5 goals.
Photographers from around the world shot the action on the new Sony low light gear during the game which was uploaded, along with all the other footage from the other 6 games to Sony’s servers, and will form part of a global marketing campaign for the range leading up to the 2010 World Cup.
The low-light capabilities of our own camera was remarkable. It actually seemed to shoot better images the darker the stadium got. We shot loads of footage – so as the editing gets done and all the stupid things we said gets dumped – we can pop them up here.
Check out the photographs from all the other games that happened around the world on the official Flickr page here.
A teaser of all the goals against the Spanish team.

Billboard or energy efficient wall?
This is interesting – PNC Financial Services Group has erected a ‘green’ wall outside of their HQ in Pittsburg PA in order to be more ‘energy efficient’.
