Recycled business cards: The Zim dollar version
Posted on 03. Jun, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry in Design
Probably after realising that South Africans were happily tapping most of their currency to create billboards and business cards, the Zimbabwean government have unfortunately discontinued printing their worthless currency and have switched to using US Dollars. But notes can still be sourced and turned into inexpensive business stationary like this. Miki sent in this example, which was offered by the Liv design girls in JHB.
Personally, we aspire to one day printing our details on twenty pound notes.
[thanks Miki]
Update: If you are keen to use old Zim dollars as office stationary and are wondering where you can get hold of old currency from our northern neighbour, check out the The M’dala Trust – which supports elderly, destitute Zim pensioners in the Western Cape.
They have One Hundred Trillion Dollar notes for sale at R100 each – details and image on this Gumtree advert. Or you can order these puppies via e-mail from their Chairman – Leon Jacobs at marleon@MWeb.co.za
Even Dr Evil couldn't miss that kinda opportunity.

That is too … bizarre, clever, imaginative – really there are too many adjectives that come to mind. It is a unique way to recycle the old currency into a useful product. Also it is a great conversation starter – think about it when you meet someone and they look at your card, bearing one hundred trillion dollars they are bound to ask something.
Ingenious. Somewhere in one of my boxes I have an old currency note from Saudi Arabia bearing Sadam Hussein – NOW that was something that started conversations. I have since put it away, trying not to think of the whole tragedy that transpired there.

A one hundred trillion dollar note. That’s ridiculous!
Interesting idea for stationary though. I bet there would be a demand for this type of stuff. I remember reading during the Weimar Republic (post WWI) in Germany people used currency to heat houses. Maybe you could make a log out of these?

Wow that is really wild. One hundred trillion dollars? Do you know the currency exchange rate for that in U.S dollars? I would love to get a hold of that for my father for Christmas. He is a collector of different currency’s around the world.
Thanks for posting!
