Nakedness and wine – always a winning combination
Posted on 06. Mar, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
From our experience, a bottle or two of Spice Route Malabar or Eagle's Nest Shiraz + sunset and fresh canapés usually result in extensive nakedness after their consumption. But the Joburg Wine Show have turned things around and are promising the T&A upfront.
From the press release we were kindly sent:
According to organiser John Woodward, the theme was in keeping with the philosophy of the show. “The Wine Show Jo’burg is about stripping away all the snobbery and pretentiousness surrounding wine. We were looking for a way to portray the fun and relaxed ambiance that has become the signature of this event and realised that the spirit of the show would be captured best in visual format. Once we embarked on that line of thought, the appeal of a photographic competition was evident,” mentions Woodward.
The competition is open to all amateur and professional photographers. Entries can be submitted online at www.getpix.co.za or www.wineshow.co.za from Monday, 2 March 2009. An entry fee of R50 will be charged and this will be handled electronically at the time of entry submission.
The subsequent calendars will be sold from the Getpix stand at The Wine Show for R100, with all proceeds going to breast cancer charities.
So there you have it. If you've always dreamed of appearing in Playboy, but couldn't be bothered with having to be nice to that old pervy guy, then this could be the break you were looking for.
After the disappointment of not entering the last amateur photographic gig, which we could well have won, if there are ladies who would like to get their kit off and submit an entry, but lack access to a decent photographer – we've been known to take a handy snap or two in the past. Get in contact and we'll offer our services gratis.
[thanks Raoul]

Resident Evil 5 launch at a Blood Donation Clinic
Posted on 05. Mar, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
When slashing limps off zombies with a chainsaws is considered to be wicked entertainment by somebody – then what better place to attend a launch party for a game that fuels your deepest fantasies for gore than a blood donation clinic.
Donating blood isn't a requirement to attend, but those who do will
have a chance to win Resident Evil 5 Blood Drive collectibles like
posters and bumper stickers, copies of the game, or a special edition
red Xbox 360.
Always great to some thought going into a launch event rather than just hosting the thing in a hall with soggy sausage rolls and cheap booze. [thanks Motheo]
Watch out for the next Grand Theft Auto version being launched locally at Maverick's, sponsored by Beretta and Pontiac, with a complimentary KY gel bathtub and sherbet lollies. Yeah baby!

MTN are sending out personalised documentation with contract upgrades
Posted on 05. Mar, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
MTN South Africa are stepping it up. Instead of the usual old, glossy, printed rubbish that follows the useless handset plastic wrapping straight into the bin when you get a cellphone upgrade, they're sending out branded information booklets with your own name printed all over the thing.
If that doesn't make you feel just a bit special then…well, yeah – you suck.
Very impressive. It's those little details that just make it more…there!
Makes us wanna switch from Vodacom – who after more than 10 years and numerous phonecalls to their 'helpline' still can't even manage to get the spelling of our name right.

Is Cape Town a design city?
Posted on 04. Mar, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
As part of this year's Design Indaba, Creative Cape Town had a stand to which they invited a host of speakers to discuss the topic of whether Cape Town is a design city. [Whoever designed the highways should have been hung, drawn and quartered.]
We were also involved and created a series of video podcasts, which are all posted for your viewing pleasure on Youtube if you missed the lineup live at the expo.
Amongst others; Alistair King, Andrew Boraine, and Mariette du Toit Helmblod [CEO of Cape Town Tourism] gave their spin on things.

ANC TV ad: Hot or Not?
Posted on 03. Mar, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
We spoke to somebody recently who said; "that advertising shows weakness". If that were even remotely true, what does that say about the ANC's position as the first South African political party to flight a TV ad?
Remaining completely politically neutral, we think the ANC's strategy is a great one.
The ad is emotive, the story compelling, the message smacks of humility and for the people that it's meant to target – it sells a strong reason to vote ANC.
As a brand, they understand their audience intimately and this is a cracking trump card to play. It's not the most creative or award-winning piece of work you're ever going to see, but for the results it's sure to deliver – one of the best ads so far of 2009.
New Diesel store in NYC taunts the hungry masses with store window celeb dinners
Posted on 02. Mar, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
In the midst of the biggest financial crisis our generation has ever seen, Diesel have launched a brand new 20 000 square foot store on New York's 5th Avenue.
Planet store on 54th street and Fifth Avenue, Diesel, the Italian jeans
brand, is hosting a series of dinner parties in their Fifth Avenue
window which is dressed like a real New York apartment. Last night
players from the New York Giants sat down for a meal. Monday night was
club kid night and Diesel hosted Richie Rich and Kenny Kenny.
Taking 'shoppertainment' to a new level is not the only marketing trick up their sleeves however.
Designed by Diesel’s internal team, the newest Planet features four materials throughout the entire structure: raw vintage wood, black steel, cast glass and hints of bronze. The design concept is a building within a building where customers walk through the front door to be greeted by exposed stonework mimicking another façade wall. Fifth Avenue shoppers will get a peek inside the body of the Diesel Planet through a window that rises beyond the first floor all the way up to the third.
The stark contrast in textures embraces an ‘opposites attract mentality,’ combining different items working together harmoniously such as raw industrial drop lighting combined with hand carved inlayed wooden floors. Always playful, this new face Diesel can accommodate pop up DJ booths on every floor. [thanks Karli]
Don't expect anything remotely similar popping up in Cavendish.
