Dickie B’s airline is still going strong 25 years on
Posted on 21. Feb, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry in Branding
Virgin Atlantic is still going like a boeing 25 years after they first flew from Gatwick to Newark in 1984. To celebrate, Dickie B ordered a new TV ad for the brand with a subliminal message.
The ad is pretty good, acceptable visuals, nice little story all packed into 60 seconds…but it's the soundtrack, courtesy of that classic Frankie Goes to Hollywood opening riff…that makes it.
It's one of those 80's tracks that order you to your feet and command you to engage in a little Risky Business moment.
This is not the Virgin Atlantic ad.
This is the Virgin Atlantic ad.
We wonder if these ladies are smuggling a few kilos of cocaine under their tunics too?

…but what exactly is the Virgin Atlantic ad suggesting by choosing a track with the following lyrics:
Oh oh
Wee-ell-now!
Relax dont do it
When you want to go to it
Relax dont do it
When you want to come
Relax dont do it
When you want to come
When you want to come
Relax dont do it
When you want to to go to it
Relax dont do it
When you want to come
Relax dont do it
When you want to suck it to it
Relax dont do it
When you want to come
Come-oh oh oh
But shoot it in the right direction
Make making it your intention-ooh yeah
Live those dreams
Scheme those schemes
Got to hit me
Hit me
Hit me with those laser beams
Im coming
Im coming-yeah
Relax dont do it
When you want to go to it
Relax dont do it
When you want to come
Relax dont do it
When you want to suck it to it
Relax dont do it (love)
When you want to come
When you want to come
When you want to come
Come-huh
Get it up
The scene of love
Oh feel it
Relax relax relax
Higher higher relax
Nows the time, its party time
Hey!
[we wonder if the British public are clever enough to have it banned]
Somebody please forward this video [video link to NIN's Closer - NSFW] to SAA's ad agency – goodness knows they need it.
Hell yeah!
