So how cool is it that award-winning local wine brand Warwick spotted that ‘beer bag’, that we posted some time ago and have responded with their own ‘wine crate’ carrier bag just in time for the busy end of year season.
Next time we’re in Stellenbosch we’ll be stopping over at Warwick to get a couple of bottles of Trilogy ’06 and one of these babies.

Puma pop up store pops into Cape Town

There are a bunch of lunatics visiting the city right now, all disguised as yachtspeople taking part in the Volvo Ocean Race.
We can’t think that racing around the world in a high-tech bath tub in seas that even whales have second thoughts about swimming in could in any way be regarded as fun, but the money must be good because they all do it quite happily.

Along with the travelling aqua circus, the Puma team have brought a rather sexy pop up store which you can drool over if you head to the V&A Waterfront.
The original store, which they left in Germany, was apparently made out of 24 containers all put together to make a mega-pop up mall, but you can see the two 6m box version in Cape Town right now.

We’re going to head back quayside this weekend to try our the HD dome racing simulator they’ve got, just to experience a taster of how nuts these people really are.

How Obama became the superbrand of 2008

Barack Obama is more than just the next president of the United States, he’s become a cult hero – a super brand of proportions rivalling that of David Beckham and Coca Cola. But how from relatively unknown just a year and half ago to popculture deity today was the brand built.

Right from the beginning he recruited the co-founder of Facebook Chris Hughes to help create the first ever socially-networked presidential campaign and encouraged 3.1 million people to donate as little as $5 to have a vested interest in a positive outcome.
Overall he managed to raise nearly US$650 million in funding [of which $240 million was spend
on advertising] as opposed to John McCain’s budget of just $358 million.
The marketing attack was so comprehensive, on so many media channels and so socially connected with American youth culture – that it was almost impossible for him to lose.

The Obama campaign even bought a channel on the Dish Network to screen Obama ads 24/7.
Yes we can…take a lot, marketing wise, out of how they did it.

7-Eleven in the US have jumped on the Obama / McCain rumble to get America in their stores… and buying coffee.

The stores are offering a national coffee cup poll, which they’ve called the 7-Election. [See even the morning cuppa Joe has turned into a defining political weapon.]
Choose blue for Barack, red for McCain or white if you don’t have a cooking clue who these two guys are.
7-Eleven’s very loose poll has Obama winning with 60% of the caffeine vote.

Understandably John McCain and that Sarah Palin don’t have much of a following down here in Africa. [Old army dudes and moose killers with strong links to dictators who bomb countries are generally not very popular in this neck of the woods.]

Obama fever has also made its way into South African popular culture and thanks to Love Jozi you can wear your undying support.
