Sea Monkeys make a triumphant return
Ever since Sea Monkeys made their magnetic debut on the back of Archie comics in the early 80's, the opportunity to use them as advertising has existed.
Speaking of which, local agency FoxP2 created this direct mailer for National Geographic Kids. It was sent to media buyers/planners, and yes...it's a sea monkey kit disguised as a fossil regeneration unit.
When they [the ad space buying people] received the ‘Unit’ the Triops eggs were tiny, miniscule dots in the test tubes, but in one short week they grew into prehistoric-looking creatures almost the length of your thumb! Included in the pack was an interactive CD with a program to track their Triops’ growth and find out the facts about them, as well as the National Geographic Kids rate card and advertising details. [thanks Mike]
Much better [and clearly more interactive] than sending the usual blurb about facts and figures usually cluttering the pages of a rate card.
Pics of the little critters after the leap...

Well done guys!
