Open source cinema

Isn’t it a crying shame that enjoying a movie in public has to take place in a popcorn-infused-fabric-seat black hole, where they charge you the yearly salary of a Zimbabwean marine biologist to have your movie viewing interrupted by the bloke sitting next to you. Who insists on opening his built-in-megaphone wrapper sweets during every quiet bit he can time it with.
The art of cinema should be shared in a real public space; after dark, in the heat of summer…projected onto the side of city buildings.
That’s exactly what they have done in Rotterdam where for three weeks, a
surprising and uncompromising programme of international film and
video art can be seen on the Schouwburgplein.
We can kinda see people having a picnic on the grass islands in Adderley street, while enjoying some good independent local productions under a star-filled sky.
