Axe towels

Axe1

Axe2_1

Presenting - the Axe towel...as only Axe would know how to dry you off.

We can already hear 100 000 pimply-faced, all-boys school PT class change rooms exchanging iPod Nanos and FHM subscriptions for one of these.

Post letter = physical affection

Australiapost_25

If only dealing with the post office was a nice as receiving a big hearty hug.

Trying to convince a connected public to send more snail mail - the Australian Post Office promises more love and affection after sending an old-school letter.

Sending someone a physical letter these days, is ironically - rather groundbreaking. Next thing you know girls will be spraying their love letters with perfume.

Touching.

Peta meat so wrong

O_petarocketboygr

Not only cigarettes, but now also meat eating may result in a smaller than hoped for Johnson sizing.

This ad, was created about 10 years ago by PETA to highlight the connection between eating meat and impotence. PETA never actually released it, they found it in their archives a few weeks ago. [via Houtlust]

Ten years ago? Was the Internet so widespread ten years ago to warrant the use of website www.meatstinks.com?

What crap - this ad was made last week. Peta's just too ashamed to admit that they have stooped to such levels of maturity.

D&G rape ad is naughty

Dolcegabbana03Italian fashion brand, Dolce & Gabbana are in big trouble... in Spain - because of this ad.

The people of Spain, feel that the suggested forceful holding of the model by the other male model, is too suggestive of violence against supermodels.

We can't see what the fuss is about. These nancy-boys are clearly just after her shoes.

"Quick Vaughn - while I hold her down you grab those fabulous shoes".

Grease boy in background seems to have also noticed her lipstick. Nice shade hey big boy?

Rape? - no. Theft of fashion accessories - oh yes.

New: Opening soon

As business and marketing trend scouts by day, we are constantly exposing ourselves to outstanding ideas and concepts from around the world and down the road everyday.

All of this input of mammoth creativity, is constantly inspiring us to not only blog about emerging trends, but to produce them as well.

Opening this week - right after we get back from Joburg [where we'll be featuring in the speaker line up of a smaller Design Indaba / Pop!Tech-type vibe] - our latest venture.

Get ready to check it out.

Design Indaba: Reggie Watts moves the crowd

ReggiewattsCall us a little shallow and perhaps easily influenced by big 'fros and beat box machines, but we were moved by what Reggie Watts had to say.

Although having nothing to add to three days of conversation surrounding design, innovation and social upliftment - Reggie Watts is a public speaking god.
A supercomedian who combines vocal hip hop looping with comedy and abstract crack-head thinking in probably the most entertaining 30 minutes of your life.

Not to say that the other speakers at this year's event were any less informative.

Alex Steffen - co-founder and executive editor of Worldchanging.com - was inspirational with his examples of how design will save the world from itself. Probably the most amazing is the 'Land Mine detecting flower'. A white flower, generically engineered to turn red in the presence of land mines.

Cameron Sinclair - the world-famous UK architect - in 2004 Fortune Magazine named Cameron Sinclair as one of “seven people  changing the world for the better”. Through a global collaboration with other architects and industrial designers, Cameron is pioneering the idea of open-source architecture. Instead of designing skyscrapers for big money, he's housing 2.6 billion of the world's poorest people.

Brian Eno - spoke about art being anything that we don't have to do and that as humans, our competitive advantage is that we have 'theory of mind'. Meaning that we have the ability to create other people's minds within our own. [It made a lot more sense when you're actually there listening to the reasoning behind that one].

Niel Gershenfeld - the nutty professor - is the Director of MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms. His unique laboratory investigates the relationship between the content of information and its physical representation, from molecular quantum computers to virtuosic musical instruments.

MIT is working closely with the SA government to develop local talent through their Fab Labs. It's basically a complete fabrication laboratory which allows anyone to design and manufacture anything that they want to create.
There's one in Cape Town at 75 Harrington Street, which we're keen to go check out. We've got a loose blue print for a Terminator machine, which can be set to work making coffee and firing live rounds at the annoying neighbourhood cat.

All world-class speakers at the top of their game, but if ever you get the chance to hear Reggie Watts live - do yourself a favour and make sure you attend.

Design Indaba Expo 2007

Design00

The most public event of the Indaba every year is the Expo. This year, international retail buyers were invited to do some scouting at the event, which will hopefully see things like the XYZ's condom applicator and Heath Nash lamps land up in your local Walmart.

Check out our pics from the show floor here.

Design Indaba: Zapiro

Zapiro

Most applause given at the Design Indaba conference 10 - goes to Zapiro. He's still laughing about being sued by Jacob Zuma for now R10 million.

This, his most famous cartoon, was even shown in parliment by Mandela after we lost that Olympic Games host city bid to Greece.

Legend.

JetBlue grovels on YouTube

After subjecting their customers to ten hours of JetBlue cabin torture, the CEO of the brand has now posted an apology on YouTube.

Its seen as a first that a CEO has ever apologised for anything, and a first that YouTube has been used to 'spread the word'.

But, the CEO looks a bit like Queen Elizabeth in that the even took place more than a week ago, and their cheap cop-out is only airing now after much public blog bashing.

Plus - note the slight smug look on David Neeleman's face as he reads the words off the tele-prompt. You can just see how stupid he thinks this idea is.

Roast him at the stake we say. Give us his head.

iCatching: Food ad fight

Manhatten restaurant owner is driven by rage to purchase a full-page advertisement in The New York Times,  accusing the NYT writer of being crap himself.

Handbag slugging match, over 10 000km away from, makes us note down the name of restaurant for visitation and champagne chugging purposes next time New York is lucky enough to see us. Genius.

  • Has all other types of business ceased to exist? CNN Money lists their Top 25 startups to watch and they all seem to be those odd Internet 2.0 things.
  • Once the clever nerds have made their billions - perhaps they'd care to take a look at the Forbes list of the World's Most Expensive Homes of 2007. Stellenbosch wine farm house is right up there with the best of them.
