Ads at Ellis Park finally get noticed

Who ever said that advertising wasn’t entertaining?

Ellis Park Stadium’s new trick to get fans to notice the advertising wallpaper boards around the pitch, has made it onto the Internet. Wooo

If you haven’t already heard about the new innovation – management at Joburg’s Ellis Park stadium came up with this crafty plan to launch advertising boards at players taking part in a PSL game at the ground, ensuring maximum advertising exposure for their long suffering advertisers.

Never before have so many people taken notice of a PSL game and realised that companies actually pay to make the sides of the field look a bit more colourful.

Excellent stuff – just like something Mary Poppins would do.

Operation Hunger all over the place

Operation Hunger (no – not the ramp model labour union) is on a promotion drive.

Outdoor ambient is their weapon of choice at self-help parking pay points and the bins in Sea Point.

Bins

Pay point idea is clever. We understand the thinking behind the ‘nutritional information’ label on a bin, but its perhaps a bit too lateral for most plebs to understand.

IF you thought South African AIDS action groups were hooked on Ritalin – a major U.S. AIDS treatment group plans to file a lawsuit that
accuses drug giant Pfizer Inc. of illegally promoting and advertising the recreational use
of its blockbuster impotence pill Viagra.

Huh? What other use is there for Viagra other than recreational?

  • The big record labels are getting desperate.

In a sad attempt to to counter music piracy, major music labels have
agreed to support a service that will offer free music downloads — with
some substantial restrictions — to any college student in the US.

Unfortunately the record execs haven’t heard of an iPod before (cause the tracks can’t be played on one) and so head off into retirement without anybody caring about their stupid plan.

The devil is Prada

PradaphoneWhat have we here?

Just days after the massively exciting, ‘oh…we never thought such things were possible outside a Star Trek episode’ launch of Apple’s iPhone -the Italians launch this.

It looks like an iPhone. It kinds works like an iPhone, but its an LG with Prada branding all over it.

So it turns out that Prada post their brand name in more places than just multi-million dollar America’s Cup yachts and Hollywood movies.

If you push the right buttons in the right sequence it might even brew you up a cappuccino.

Federline to be Superbowl ad spokesman

Federline2In what appears to be a rather strange move – an insurance company in the States has drafted Kevin Federline to say a few words in its all important Superbowl ad.

But before you think that Nationwide
(the insurance company) has lost their minds: The company, whose slogan is “Life comes at you
fast” is known for casting famous losers in their Superbowl ads and then
letting them make fun of themselves.

“The advert… shows Federline
rapping in a slick music video but later it is revealed that he is only
dreaming while he works the grill at a fast food restaurant,” reports RTE
Entertainment.

Airport ad too racy for Kiwis

Lovable

In more advertising banning news – Kiwi airport officials have banned an advertising billboard featuring a lacy bra-clad Jennifer Hawkins (a former Miss Universe), holding a plush toy rhino and the word ‘Horny?’.

The ad for a lingerie brand was deemed a "step too far".

Too far from what – we wonder.
New Zealand itself is too far from everything. Maybe with Super 14 season starting shortly – the officials though that the brand’s association with an African animal was just too close for comfort.

We personally take major offense to Jennifer biting down onto the rhino’s ear like Mike Tyson.

Because Cell C own the whole dwarf thing

Posted on 18. Jan, 2007 by .

Wowdwarf
The fight to own the image of a dwarf in South African advertising has gotten ugly.

According to the ASA’s recent complaints list:

Net#work BBDO, on behalf of Cell C, lodged a competitor complaint against a television commercial for Kulula.com.

The
commercial features small people dressed in orange with helmets and
seat numbers on their backs. It takes place in an airport where a male
passenger expresses his sorrow that the little people can not come on
the flight. The pay-off line is “more legroom. Quicker queues”.

After much heated debate and triple checking of the code of conduct, to which all brand builders subscribe – the advertising authority ruled in Cell C’s favour and demanded that Kulula retract its attempt to piggyback on the goodwill Cell C had generated in the public’s eye… by using dwarfs to build their brand.

Unfortunately, neither TV ad can be found by us for our own private reviewing purposes.
And we’re never going to catch either ad on TV, cause they don’t show ads on the All Africa Poker channel.
But it seems kinda daft that this issue has even reached the walnut bench of the ASA.

At least 95% of the time, the South African public hasn’t a clue what brand is being advertised by any given commercial.
So whether an ad featuring dwarfs is for Cell C or Kulula – nobody really cares. All people remember are dwarfs + airport + time to channel hop + why am I being irritated by stupid little people with numbers on the backs.

Quit fighting kids. Pool your massive media budgets together and whichever of you finally gets associated with the dwarfs by Joe Soap, can go out and buy yourselves an ice cream with the revenue from the additional business you just scored through the gamble.

You can read the rest of the letter to the teacher here.

Now wipe your nose, be a big boy and go play outside.
