How to motivate your staff
Posted on 30. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
Buy them this Subbuteo Giant Inflatable Pitch for them to run out their frustrations at lunch time.
Forget a dodgy foosball table – that’s a bit retro now – this stadium of dreams will feel like playing at the Allianz stadium in Munich.
The blow-up enclosure is ideal for four-man kickabouts in the back garden.
Simply plug in its über-powerful pump and the entire shebang -
goalposts, pillars and all – inflates in about 30 seconds.
At only £294.95 – you’re going to be sicker than David Beckham after a dry run. A ball and complimentary super model wife are not included.

Brand building
Posted on 30. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
That dude who had the brainwave with milliondollarhomepage.com (just so you’re up to speed – the site is a visual bombardment of advertising pixels on one page. The
idea has earned its creator over a million dollars in advertising sales.) has taken the idea to the real world and is now offering ad space on a building.
If you look at the heavy-hitting sponsors already taking space on the thing, it’s pretty impressive – even if it does make it look damn ugly. [via]
Free business idea: Jet-powered Internet cafe
Posted on 30. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
An Internet cafe is usually like a public train station.
Filled with tourists checking up on their email, geeks needing to be in the same room as other geeks and pervert trying to get access to adult content portals even though the sign says; ‘No porn, big boy’.
It’s a bit of a ho hum industry really.
But now the BBC reports that a new kind of Internet cafe has opened in Cornwall, England; that offers connection speeds 50 times faster than the typical British ADSL speed.
That means users can download data at speeds of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps)….and its for free.
Just to give you some idea of how fast this puppy actually runs -
Adrian Hosford of BT said: "It would be possible to use
the cafe’s computers to download in less than 15 minutes a file the
equivalent size of the DVD version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica,
with its 19,000 illustrations, 629 audio and video clips and 100,000
articles.
"A standard broadband connection would typically take in excess of five hours."
In a country like ours, where the fastest connection struggles to download even a 100k picture of Hello Kitty – this has to a mouth watering opportunity.
Chat to Telkom, give them a cut in the business and organise a direct satellite link to nirvana. [thanks Nick Soper]

A tall glass to oxygen
Posted on 29. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
Proof that we’re now living in the days of Buck Rogers.
Check out OGO Still – ‘The breathing water’.
From the Netherlands, OGO has an oxygen concentration that is 35 times
higher than regular water. The burst of oxygen in each bottle of OGO
will give your O2 saturation a boost. Our less-than-scientific tests
resulted in a consensus that OGO did definitely give panel members a
quick pick-me-up feeling.
Its seriously like Red Bull for your goldfish.
We would dig to see the little critters zooming around their little 20cm x 20cm aqua-jail filled with this stuff. The cat would never catch them and we wouldn’t have to replace them every week.
Well – the point to this post, for us, is the innovative bottle design.
Its a sphere, which is rather remarkable. And compliments the weird idea that you can actually breathe this water.
That - along with the joy of watching our furry friend’s head go round-and-round, puts us on their order list.

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve
Posted on 29. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
There’s some rather disturbing news doing the rounds that some dude is planning to use the power of the Internet and photography to post some really hectic crime photographs from South Africa.
If you’re going to visit this site – then do so. But remember, South Africa has challenges and at the same time huge opportunities.
If you have a problem in your family, you don’t take pictures of it and encourage your friends to never visit again. You band together, fix the problem – with the help of your friends – and move on.
Call us idealists, but do us a favour – after you’ve seen that other website – come back to our photoblog and browse through the archives for a bit.
Go to Frozen Motion and check out Ambuscher’s amazing shots – head to Gosu and see what won Jason the award for best Middle Eastern and African photoblog – go visit Lor who’s site Apparently Nothing has consistently been voted one of the best blogs in the UK….and then decide for yourself whether it’s better to dwell on the challenge or the opportunity.
Preach out.

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve
Posted on 29. Jun, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
The Cherryflava team decided to cut loose from the city and head to the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve for some R & R and fresh mountain air.
Although the main lodge was burnt down in last year’s hectic fires which ravaged the Western Cape, they’re building another one.
In addition to being on top of a small mountain, with jaw-arresting views of Gansbaai and the sea from everywhere – including your bathroom – the venue is seriously world-class.
The lodge chef is a master – Gordon Ramsey would even love to eat there – the wine list extensive and the constantly bubbling mega-fireplace in the middle of the restaurant keeps the place hotter than the core reactor of Chernobyl.
If the silence gets to you on top of the mountain – cut down to the Birkenhead brewery for an afternoon of beer tasting and sun appreciation, only a couple of kays away.

Murdoch: “The Internet is media’s golden age.”
Posted on 28. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
Rupert Murdoch isn’t stupid – and at 75 he’s totally pumped about MySpace and the future business opportunities the internet holds.
“To find something comparable, you have to go back 500 years to the
printing press, the birth of mass media – which, incidentally, is what
really destroyed the old world of kings and aristocracies. Technology
is shifting power away from the editors, the publishers, the
establishment, the media elite. Now it’s the people who are taking
control.”
The days of top-down, force-fed, one-size-fits-all media are over. The
new imperative is to deliver precisely what audiences want, when and
where they want it.
Damn interesting article from Wired.
The Top 10 marketing blogs and podcasts
Posted on 28. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
Marketingsherpa have just announced their ‘readers’ choice’ of best marketing blogs and podcasts.
All the usual suspects are there – but what really struck us was that some of these marketing blogs really do have the most boring and un-imaginative names.
That’s the definition of irony right there kids.
Anyhow – go check out the list here. [thanks Andrea]
Interior garage designers
Posted on 28. Jun, 2006 by Cassandra.
The one place in every house that’s almost guaranteed to be a complete dog’s lunch is the stinking garage.
Most unwanted junk lands up in this oil-fumed black whole that should actually be housing the car and maybe a Weber and the Cannondale you never ride.
Seeing the opportunity Marc Shuman started a garage cleaning and makeover business called GarageTek.
GarageTek was a no-brainer when Shuman founded it in 2000. He got the
idea when he and his father, with whom he outfitted department store
interiors, designed and built a set of slotted wall panels with
moveable shelves for a retail client. When several of his employees
began using the panel systems to organize their own garages and
basements, Shuman realized he had a potential hit on his hands. And the
timing seemed perfect: The housing market was heating up, garages were
getting bigger, and closet organizers were all the rage. Shuman decided
to sell the display business and open GarageTek.
The business is currently trading in Canada, the US and the UK.
And here all we really wish for is a reliable, efficient and funky local cleaning company that can sort out the state of the house.
