Humans are by an astronomical margin the most successful species on Earth. We are sadly so successful that other animals, plants and the Earth itself are fast being removed from existence because of our relentless pursuit of that success.
But how did a fairly ordinary ape-like creature become so powerful?
Prof Yuval Noah Harari from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has a thought provoking idea about that elusive question, which sounds completely plausible.
Human society is complex and generating some kind of cooperation within the vast human society of individuals takes some imaginative magic. Ironically that magic is (and always has been) right in front of us, but just like breathing – is not necessarily glaringly obvious.
Our world views shape our realities, but few ever question or are even conscious that their own world view is a construct of their own imagination. Once you realise that, reality itself becomes malleable.
