Fast Company – the magazine for business innovators – is set to launch a South African edition in October this year.

FAST COMPANY, the most progressive business media brand in the United States and the recent winner of the magazine industry’s biggest prize – Magazine of The Year at the National Magazine Awards in May this year – is launching a South African edition here in October.

FAST COMPANY was launched in November 1995 by two former Harvard Business Review editors, and has gone from a launch distribution of 100 000 copies to a total circulation now of over 800 000 and a readership of more than 3 million per month in the US, making it the fastest growing business magazine ever.

Robbie Stammers, publishing editor of Insights Publishing in Cape Town, is the one bringing the brand to South Africa. Stammers, who was editor-in-chief of Leadership Magazine for seven years – and the winner of Business Editor of the Year on two occasions at the PICA Awards, along with numerous other awards under his belt – recently returned from New York where he sealed the deal with Mansueto Ventures, the holding company of FAST COMPANY.

“We are extremely excited about launching FAST COMPANY South Africa,” said Stammers. “I have been keen on bringing the brand to our shores for some time and finally it is now happening. FAST COMPANY is all about a younger, new breed of innovative and creative thought leaders who are actively inventing the future of business – and the timing of this type of magazine is perfect for the South African market.”

Innovation and creativity are at the heart of the magazine content, and FAST COMPANY motivates readers to think beyond traditional boundaries, to lead proactively and, most importantly, to embrace change.
The publication is well-known for two different franchises: Most Innovative Companies and the Most Creative People in Business. For its Most Innovative Companies feature, FAST COMPANY assesses thousands of businesses based on creativity, real-world impact, risk taking and execution, to create a list of just 50 companies. The Most Creative People in Business is a list of 100 persons from a wide range of industries. FAST COMPANY South Africa will publish these global lists locally as well as include lists of the South African equivalents of the most innovative companies and creative people.

Stammers, who will be the publishing editor of the title, is joined by Evans Manyonga as editor of FAST COMPANY South Africa.
“I am looking forward to the challenge and I know this publication will reshape consumer publishing in South Africa. It will also ensure the younger generation stays up to date with the emerging business trends in South Africa and, indeed, the world,” said Manyonga. “In essence, this publication will ensure many people fall in love with magazine publishing once again, through its innovative, insightful and modern approach to topical business issues.”

FAST COMPANY recently launched an edition in China, and the South African version will be its first global edition in English outside the US.
Robert Safian, editor and managing director of the award-winning monthly business magazine in the US, said: “We couldn’t be more pleased to be launching in South Africa or to be working with Robbie Stammers, who is an editor’s editor. The business climate in South Africa is extremely exciting now, and is the perfect place for FAST COMPANY’s message about innovation, creativity and disruption to take root. We can’t wait to get started.”

FAST COMPANY South Africa will be launched here in October this year, with 20 000 copies through all top retail outlets and a number of other exciting distribution channels to be unveiled shortly.
