IsiXhosa is a beautiful language – listen to the late Dr Maya Angelou speak about it.

It’s always amazed us that when South Africans travel to Thailand they immediately pick up and speak a few Thai words. A holiday in Zanzibar is ended with a few phrases in Swahili as a tourist momento. But at home in South Africa most white South Africans couldn’t be bothered to learn a few lines of isiXhosa to speak to their fellow countrymen in a language other than English. Why is that?

Nation building [as with many things in life] is the easiest and most difficult thing to do, you really just shouldn’t over think it.

‘If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.’ – Nelson Mandela
