With Thanks

30032007091_2 The South African blog awards wouldn't be complete without thanking a number of people for making them happen.

Rafiq and Miguel from Web Addicts for putting together the new voting system and taking care of the admin process. The guys worked long hours - and put together a world-class system.

Mel, Lee, Don, Rich...! and the rest of the team from Missing Link for their amazing work in putting together the awards evening. Much respect! Do yourself a favour and check out the video Lee put together on the night.

Sarah from Quirk for running the alternative logo contest.

The sponsors:

Storm for the Apple MacBook Pro given to Tertia for winning blog of the year. The guys from TSC Imbizo - suppliers of suitably branded promotional schtuff - for sponsoring the vuvuzela trophies.
Thanks to Stormhoek and Podcity for the spot prizes on the night, and all the other category sponsors; Cerebra, MobileQandA, eSquared, Skyrove, Yeigo, Dell, Arthur Goldstuck, Tertia and Cooksister for their contribution.

Thanks also to all the bloggers on the panel for your time and effort, the judges, the public who  voted and everyone who attended the awards ceremony.

There were a couple of trophies which had to be taken back to Cape Town after the awards, because the winners could not make the ceremony in Johannesburg.
The gentleman in picture was so keen to get his hands on one of the vuvuzelas - so we granted him the honourary winner of the 'Best Post on a South African blog' award.
At least we know the award will finally be appreciated.

All your winners here.

Cherry on Amplitude

We (actually the editor of Cherryflava, Jon Cherry) cracked the nod from podcasting, marketing wunda-kinders Mike Stopforth and Dave Duarte to be interviewed about Feverpitcher on their latest Amplitude episode.

It's only now that we listen to the interview that there's the realisation  Mike couldn't get a word in edge ways.
How bad?

SA blogger gets a book deal because of blog

SocloseIts not just big, A-list American and European bloggers that are attracting the attention of book publishers.

Great news is that local Cape Town blogger, Tertia Albertyn who blogs the very popular So Close, has just been published because of her site.

Tertia's blog and book are a personal account of her own struggle with infertility. And subsequent triumph with the birth of her twins in January 2005.

Internationally - anonymous postcard blog, Postsecret and London callgirl blogger Belle de Jour have hit the big time with their printed versions.
So hopefully the So Close book will not only be a financial success, but also pioneer similar ventures and promote the exposing power of independent publishing in South Africa.

As a bonus to you, the Cherryflava reader - we're playing Oprah today and have a couple of copies of the book to give away.
Its not going to be everyone's brand of cigarette, but If you'd like to get a free copy - please email us [cherryflava {at} gmail {dot} com] a one paragraph motivation.
The first two good entries get a free book - go now.

Who knows - maybe someday DSTV will approach the SA blog community to put together some real content on our own dedicated TV channel. Wouldn't that be cool?

UPDATE: Ok, we have our free book winners - well done Dave and Craig. We look forward to the reviews.
