Early this morning we followed the trail to take a few snaps of a Heritage Day yarn bombing that that we got wind of happening in Adderley Street.

We think a World Design Capital nominee city is a little lost without a splash of colour on it’s old statues now and again…especially on the occasion of Heritage Day. Jan van Riebeeck even seemed to enjoy his South African flag warmers.

In the 80′s Ronald Reagan, aerobics and leg warmers were huge. If you were alive in the 80′s and didn’t hang out in an aerobics class sporting woolen warmers you were less than noticeable as this [slightly NSFW] clip from the movie Perfect demonstrates.
With a ‘leg warmer yarn bombing’ at the Biscuit Mill on Saturday and the name of Virgin Active been thrown around as being behind it – could we be seeing the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, leotards, leg warmers and the Axel F sound-tracked studio session? Awesome!

Heard of yarn graffiti / yarn bombing / guerrilla knitting? According to Wikipedia – it’s a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted cloth rather than paint or chalk. So far we’ve only seen it being done in foreign locations – but now it seems the brand new MyCiti bus route as been tagged with a colourful splash of jersey.
