McDonald’s: This would also be a great condom ad
Posted on 15. May, 2012 by Jonathan Cherry.
We had a cat once that used to love the idea of burying her claws into the cushions of the couch and then joyfully bounding after the goose down that flew all over the place as a result. Not sure how her next owners enjoyed that trick, but it was slightly annoying to us.
McDonald’s seem to have tapped into the same strange phenomenon with kids. Fuelled by abnormally high levels of sugar and processed trans-fatty acids – that same thing seems to happen to the children when placed in a home-like environment.
Don’t have the party at your place? Rather don’t have the kids in the first place!
McDonald’s interactive billboard

In Sweden, McDonald’s installed a giant pong game that feisty Swedes could play and win stuff from McDonald’s.
Seems simple enough – Pong, burgers and Swedes. Wonder whatever happened to Stefan Edberg? He’s probably as fat as a house by now.
McDonald’s billboard in Cape Town gets bombed
Posted on 28. Mar, 2011 by Jonathan Cherry.
We’ve been up in Joburg and missed the excitement in Long Street where the giant McDonald’s billboard, that is estimated to cost in excess of R350 000 a month for the space, has been defaced by vegans.
Cow-kissing, lettuce munchers cleverly added the word ‘…not’ below the infamous ‘I’m lovin’ it’ trademark copy. Nobody noticed…until last week, so the defacing may have happened ages ago. It’s really that scary. We haven’t stuffed our faces with a quarter of a pound of processed meat in ages and haven’t even felt the need to for a while now – so the guerrilla action must have worked then. Hopefully they’ll fix it soon.
McDonald’s creates a playland for adults
Posted on 24. May, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Our idea of the ultimate playland for adults would look a little different to this, but it was made by McDonald’s for the residents of Sydney Australia [need we say more]. So there are over sized slides and swings and other things that tap into the fact that we’re all 6 year olds trapped in the body of an adult and like eating burgers and stuff.
Our version of playland is in Soweto and involves drinking and tackling and plastic trumpets and stuff.
Toys to be banned from fast food…

..in parts of America at least.
According to the New York Times; the board of supervisors in Santa Clara County, south of San Francisco, voted Tuesday to ban the promotional toys that often accompany child-size portions of cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets if those meals don’t meet certain nutritional standards.
“What we’re trying to do is de-link the connection between unhealthy food and toys,” said Mr. Yeager, who added that he believed children chose their meals based on the giveaway that came with it. “Why would a kid say ‘I want a burger with fries’? It’s the toys that they want.” [more]
After finally getting to see the movie Food Inc this weekend – it’s a marketing trick that should have been banned years ago. If you really wanna know where your happy meal comes from, spend some time holding back your vomit during that movie.
Remember kids – a happy meal is one step away from a crack pipe.
BTW – here’s our classic quote from the NYTimes article:
Walt Riker, a spokesman for McDonald’s, said it was disappointed by the board’s action, adding that “our Happy Meals provide many of the important nutrients that children need,” including zinc, iron and calcium.
That’s reassuring!

McDonalds: Steamy bus shelter
Posted on 21. Dec, 2009 by Cassandra.
McDonalds and Cossette are really pumping out some creative advertising lately. One of their latest includes this steamy Canadian bus shelter.
The bus shelter billboard features a lifelike cup of coffee that periodically expels steam and uncovers a hidden message saying “Your free coffee is ready.”
It’s simple, eye-catching, and effective. Wonder what’s next?! It almost doesn’t look like steam, but rather the entire SA cricket team toking on a giant bat and blowing the smoke via the cuppa.

Tastes like paper...
Recently, McDonalds teamed up with the Toronto Sun in order to promote their breakfast burrito.
