Posted on 27. Sep, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Thanks to all of your votes and support – Cherryflava has been crowded as the Ogilvy Best South Africa Media and Marketing blog for 2010 at a glittering ceremony at the One & Only hotel on Saturday night.
It’s an honour to have received the affirmation. Well done also to 10and5, who were crowned runners up, for the contest in the final round. Was great to finally meet you guys too.
Vote for Cherryflava for an SA Blog Award
Posted on 10. Sep, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Cherryflava has been nominated as a finalist in this year’s South African Blog Awards for Best South African Media and Marketing Blog.
Please take the time vote for us [once a day] from now until the voting closes [which is mid-September]. Your democratic stamp of approval will be valued like a limited-edition Sports Illustrated World Cup 1995 rugby phone.
Isabeau the Zen master joins the Cherryflava team
Posted on 09. Sep, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
We’ve been on the hunt for a creative heavy-hitter here at Cherryflava for some time. Somebody that is used to having their name listed as a Loeries finalist, a talent that extends beyond the confines of socially acceptable design thinking, an individual that brings a new balance to the team. After making the request, the universe brought us a trained Shiatsu practitioner who kills the trail running circuit in her spare time and eats colourful, Knysna, forest birds for breakfast.
Isabeau will be taking on a couple of big experiential projects that we have in the pipeline and bringing peace to an otherwise franetic fourth quarter of 2010.
Amandla Edufootball are now connected to the WWW
Posted on 19. Aug, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
During the World Cup, ourselves together with Iain Harris from Coffeebeans Routes collaborated with Nike in Chicago and an inner city youth programme over there to connect them with a local football academy in Khayalitsha called Amandla Edufootball. As part of the exchange Nike provided the club with a video camera, a laptop and two years of wireless Internet access so that they can share their inspirational stories with the world.
Now finally – the future stars of Bafana Bafna get to make their video debut on the web. This is their first video that they shot straight after getting a few tips yesterday on how to use the equipment.

Cherryflava has been nominated for a Men’s Health award
Posted on 20. Jul, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Yeah – we were as dumbfounded as you to received word that we cracked the nod to be included with Nic Haralambous and Yusaf Abramjee as one of the three nominees for the Game Changer category in this year’s Men’s Health Best Men 2010 awards.
It’s obviously a huge honour and we feel rather bashful about the whole thing, but in the interests of democracy and the preservation of free speech and freedom of association please head over there and make your mark next to your candidate of choice.
While you’re at it, perhaps consider giving Mr Brad Armitage [from our other office at Brewers & Union] your vote in the Trendsetter category We think that validation is well-deserved.
Steenberg’s Twitter tasting – great success
Posted on 24. Mar, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
We’re still staring lovingly at greasy, toasted cheese and ham sandwiches and neat espresso shots after last night’s Steenberg Twitter tasting. Wine tasting via a live Twitter feed is nothing new internationally, but it was one of the first times the idea had been put to the sword in South Africa and we were stoked to have been a part of it’s creation.
The conversation online was lively [more so the further down the range we got], and the feedback very useful for the Steenberg team.
The Cherryflava Peep Show is now fully booked
Posted on 17. Nov, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
Tickets for tomorrow night’s Peep Show are now all gone, but the good news for everyone else is that the legends from Zoopy are sending over a full TV broadcast team to record the show. We’ll obviously alert you to when that will be.
The Cherryflava Peep Show: Book your ticket now
Posted on 12. Nov, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
After four very successful BRAND HOOLIGANS and SecondBase events this year – Cherryflava will be finishing off 2009 with the debut of our very own marketing talk show which we’ve baptised ‘The Cherryflava Peep Show’.
If you’re a fan of Fokofpolisiekar, Dave Levinsohn, Justin Bonello, Bed on Bricks or us – it would be very rude of you not to reserve a ticket or two for next week’s show.
Tickets are going fast – so if you’re keen to see the live show, please check out the details here and let us know.
It’s on Wednesday 18 November at the New Space Theatre in the city. Starts at 18h30 – ends at 20h00 and should be a hoot.
BTW – if you aren’t able to make it, we’re having the whole thing filmed [it is a TV talk show after all] which will be posted on Zoopy

The latest Digital Edge podcast is all about Alternative Reality Gaming [ARG] marketing. We chatted quickly about the work that we did for Woolies. Other interviews include detail about The Dark Knight ARG and The Art of the Heist campaign done for Audi.
Introducing: The Cherryflava Peep Show
Posted on 02. Nov, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
In addition to BRAND HOOLIGANS and SecondBase – we’re launching our own version of a live talk show called The Cherryflava Peep Show.
It’s a marketing talk show for people who would rather lick a live electricity plug than attend a marketing talk. We’ll cut the crap and get down to the bare, naked, dirty truth. Hosted by Jon Cherry and Dave Levinsohn the show kicks off at the New Space Theatre in Long Street Cape Town on Wednesday 18 November at 18h30.
Our guest line-up includes:
South African hard rock outfit Fokofpolisiekar…
…and TV chef and African traveller Justin Bonello.
Details on audience tickets and how to apply for them are all here.
