Drink your billboard
Posted on 20. Oct, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Any ad that adds value is a gooooood billboard. With temperatures reaching heights at which humans are not able to function without the cool, refreshing qualities of drinking water – this handy billboard delivered just that in Tel Aviv, Isreal.
That’s better.
Bee-vertising: See it while you still can

Bee colonies around the world are collapsing. Nobody knows why, but everybody knows that it’s not the best thing [considering that bees are mainly responsible for all the food that we eat]. To highlight the problem – a live bee-board.
It’s unclear what people can do about it once they have been made aware of the problem via the Bee-board, but seeding a bit of fear into the English countryside never really hurt anybody before.
Dicey billboard

The Australians have found another way to forget that there isn’t much to do in Australia by making a bus shelter billboard from 7,563 individual pieces of dice. There is, however, no evidence that you are more likely to touch and drool over it more than if it was printed on vinyl.
‘Shock and outrage’ over taunting Teazers billboard
Posted on 01. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
A national uproar has resulted following a South African adult revue chain posting a billboard up in Johannesburg featuring a heavily photoshopped model appearing to smoke a cigarette.
Due to the country’s very strict anti-smoking laws [and the sensitivities arising from the discovery that the present Big Brother housemates all seem to be raging chain-smokers] the image of the woman with plumes of smoke cascading from her open mouth has got the health advocates in a bit of bun fight to see who can send a letter of complaint to the ASA first.
In addition, the words – No need for Gender Testing – would at first seem to be a crafty stab at the recent Caster Semenya balls up. But Lolly Jaskson, the owner of the chain of adult clubs, says there’s no connection…and so that’s that.
Contrary to a few rumours Lolly is also not actively planning on hiring the South African 800m star as part of his Spring / Summer lineup.

Mixing the old with the new

Northern Wisconsin’s Forest County Chamber of Commerce recently designed a billboard on HWY 32 North of Milwaukee and Chicago that advertises the Facebook page for Crandon Tourism.
Although the concept isn’t terribly progressive, it’s interesting to see a way in which advertisers have combined the ‘old’ with the ‘new’.
If only they put as much thought into the Facebook page itself. Unfortunately its content is a bit lacking, so clearly not too much constructive thought was put into the ‘new’…or the ‘old’ for that matter…oh well, as you were.
