Giant football smashes into Cape Town building

Mtnball

Best pic we could get with the sun shining into the lens of a cameraphone, but the MTN 2010 'building-wrap' just outside Woodbridge Island looks impressive.

It's perhaps not as dramatic as a version done for Adidas during Germany 2006, but it's early days and things are still just warming up.

Allan Gray recruits an army of grannies to craft latest billboard

DSC_8558_

Taking 3 months to complete and was stitched out of twenty four different fabrics incorporating over nine hundred individual squares - Allan Gray have a brand new billboard up at Cape Town airport that's worth looking out for next time you're heading to 'construction land'.

Following on from their 'anything worthwhile takes time' stance [which in the present economic conditions is a very sound and wise position to bank on] this giant three meters by twelve meters quilt has literally been hung on an existing billboard hording.
Unlike our previous 'airport billboard posting', we're pretty sure this one has just been erected - so keep your rotten tomatoes and soiled underwear for another time.
Nice to see some outdoor that doesn't involve printing on that toxic PVC stuff.

All it needs now is a spot of guerrilla knitting on the support poles to round it off and you've got the ultimate craft billboard.
[thanks Tessa]

What goes around, comes around

Goes around

Very thought-provoking street-pole campaign in protest against the war in Iraq. We have no idea how old this is - so don't haul out your AK-47 and fire bullets mortar-style our way if you've seen it before.

Reality billboards

Eapgatour09

Gillette have teamed up with EA Sports [smart move] and together they're making gamers, who are taking part in their online Champions of Gaming Tournament, famous every Saturday in Times Square, New York when their faces get plastered up on this giant electronic billboard.

Apparently those that got chosen for the honour got sent a photograph of themselves in Times Square as a momento.

BTW - if you look slightly to the right of the Gillette billboard, check out the 'Rock Fork' on the side of that building...most probably part of the Hard Rock Cafe branding. Yeehaa.

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange building could perhaps be put to better use

Sandton_jse_sanlam_image_5jpg

Copy: To Let. It's hard not to worry. Emotions move people - and the markets. We know that understanding them is the key to building wealth.

Seems that the building which houses the JSE in Sandton has become redundant and is 'To Let'.
On second glance however, it's actually the asset managers reminding the market that they still think they have a handle on things.

Movie shockvertising: Are the producers of new Batman movie scoring from Ledger death?

The_dark_knight_billboard1

Here's a shot of the giant billboard for The Dark Knight, featuring Heath Ledger as The Joker, found on Houston Street in New York promoting the upcoming film. It's apparently positioned just two blocks away from the apartment where he died.

A fitting tribute to the work of a great actor - or a nice angle to promote sales of movie tickets?

Grand Theft Auto IV promises big things

Gta1

Having just completed our rookie mission through Call of Duty 4 on the XBox, we're nothing more than casual gamers at the best of times. But the lure of crime and fast driving promised by these giant billboards in LA and New York may just inspire us to toss the Wii idea and rather pop a Desert Eagle cap in some innocent bystanders ass.

Gta2

But then it dawned on us that video games require electricity, so we'll have to settle for red wine and a candle light game of chess instead.

Ha-nnnnnnnnn

Powerhousecableflys

This 'Cable Flys' outdoor from the USA must have cost a packet to produce.

Taking advantage of the existing cranes on a construction site the billboard for a gym makes it look like big boy here is really doing that pull down stuff.

Avis planevertising

27032008211

On a 1Time flight from Joburg to Cape Town last week we ended up flying on a giant Avis billboard.
Apologies for the poor cellphone camera pic, but it's hard to shoot a decent pic standing in the jetwash of a 747.
Other than the passengers getting onto the aircraft and a few high flying birds trying to get out of the way, we're not too sure who's going to see this ad. A few more of these and maybe the flight will be free.

Eskom should start charging royalties

Seat

Instead of hiking the cost of electricity by whatever percentage they hit on the canteen dart board, Eskom should charge the long line of ad agencies using its brand name in vain, a small commission.

This billboard for the new Seat Cupra, which can be found on Joburg's N1 highway, gives the national electricity monopolist another deserved bitch slap in the face.
Now if someone else could deliver a swift kick in the nuts to the Reserve Bank Governor, maybe he'll consider easing off on his interest rate increases - making even the mere thought of buying a new car, a viable one.
