BRAND HOOLIGANS speaker profile: Jody Aufrichtig
Jody Aufrichtig together with his business partner Nicholas Ferguson have a very special, secret crystal ball which they house in a cave somewhere deep inside Devil's Peak. On the stroke of midnight on the first full moon of every year they make the trek up to cave to unearth their plans for the year ahead.
Inspired by it's magic properties they're taken an old, rundown biscuit factory near the railway shunting yards in Woodstock and turned it into Cape Town's hippest, trendiest and busiest organic farmer's market - The Old Biscuit Mill.
When nobody considered setting foot in Long Street unless they'd skipped a few sessions with their rehab councilor, they had the foresight to buy numerous properties in the area and turn one of them into the world-renown Daddy Long Legs boutique art hotel.
hotel. Not The two accountants' latest marketing brilliance is showcased in what used to be the old Metropolitansatisfied with the building's setup, seven vintage Airstream caravans were painstakingly sourced and brought over from America to create a rooftop fantasy trailer park on top of their Grand Daddy Hotel not even Robert Southey could have imagined.
Jody has taken the art of creating profitable brand experiences to a 'higher grade' level. He's an inspirational, practical marketing visionary with a knack for making his wild imagination a reality.

BRAND HOOLIGANS speaker profile: Rui Esteves and Brad Armitage
Right now we reading the new book by America author Michael May called 'In pursuit of Elegance'. It deals with the subject of 'subtraction' when it comes to creating something remarkable. Distill an experience down to its bare essence and then do that to the best of your ability.
Every ounce of this philosophy points to how Rui and Brad build brands. They come up with some amazing ideas...sure, but more than that they're the masters of implementing those ideas into something that really works and strikes a cord with people who can't help becoming huge fans of theirs.
The devil of anything truly worthwhile is in the detail and perhaps that's why their latest venture Brewers & Union is situated below a church. Every aspect of the space, from how the stainless steel bar stools lineup underneath the granite counter tops to the Woolies organic milk that's used in their 100% Organic espresso-based coffees [the origin of which is a very closely guarded secret] is carefully crafted to deliver that unique '& Union experience'.
The Brewers & Union marketing strategy is simple - pour every ounce of energy and passion into creating a remarkably elegant beer salon that you'll find every excuse under the sun to visit whenever you can...and be patient.

BRAND HOOLIGANS speaker profile: Mike Ratcliffe
If you Google the name of Mike Ratcliffe, the first listing that beams out at you is: Mike Ratcliffe Elvis Tribute artist.
Although
there is no record of Mike ever actually donning a black wig and
rhinestone suit in public the wines that he produces on his Warwick
estate out in Stellenbosch are all number 1 hits and demand an
enthusiastic encore.
This year Vilafonté , the first American-South African wine making collaboration, was awarded 5 stars in the 2009 Platters Wine guide for their Vilafonté Series C 2006 red blend. But even such an achievement doesn't guarantee that he won't be singing the blues.
As
the marketer of a couple of South Africa's most active brands
internationally, Mike sits in the unique position of having to recreate
his brands every year. Without the luxury of traditional advertising
tools, he carefully creates his brand around harsh wines critics, award
shows, public cellar tours and thousands of local and international
competing brands to market his product. The wine industry may sound
glamorous, but it's a mosh pit in reality where only the strong
survive.
Instead of fighting the onslaught of public opinion and
critical review, Mike has mastered the art of working with the
word-of-mouth buzz generated by his annual vintage to his advantage. An
art in an industry where everybody is an expert.

BRAND HOOLIGANS speaker profile: Jason Stewart
Jason Stewart builds brands. Not with graphic newspaper ads, big budget television spectaculars or fancy billboards on the side of a busy highway, but by talking to people and unlocking the key to a brand experience that will most likely get others talking too.
Jason used to head-up Instant Grass’ peer endorsement and brand advocacy division called Instant Seed. He's now launched South Africa’s first specialist word-of-mouth marketing agency called HaveYouHeard and makes it his living to encourage conversation about brands like Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Big Concerts, Proctor & Gamble and Vital Health Foods.
Jason is known to spend hours walking the streets of Cape Town 'absorbing' the creativity and inspiration of seemingly unconnected elements which he uses in his work. He'll be sharing his own fascinating insight with us in a unique presentation format that's guaranteed to 'WOW!'.

BRAND HOOLIGANS speaker profile: Porky Hefer
Some say that he never sleeps, because he spends his evenings redesigning Cape Town's unfinished highways on a giant to-scale model built with used toothpicks. And that on a recent trip to Hawaii he consumed and entire virgin Pina Colada, that was served in a plastic pineapple, in one continueous sip.
All we know is that his name is Porky Hefer and this profile piece is too short to do justice to the awards and world-class creative work that has been produced by him. Having worked as an creative director in leading advertising agencies in Johannesburg, Cape Town and New York City, he's now set up his own creative agency, Animal Farm, with a mandate to radically change the way we see, interact and experience the world around us.

BRAND HOOLIGANS speaker profile: Gareth Cotten
Gareth Cotten is a man that sees the world through 'matrix-like'
glasses. Show him a street in the city and he'll immediately start
scratching away in his moleskin, a tight list of businesses that he'll
have a business plan for within an hour.
At a little over 24-years
of age he has completed a seriously advanced tax honours degree as well
as a BComm undergraduate degree from the University of Cape Town. He
owns Chariot Limousines,
a limo company that he founded just a few years ago while studying,
which is re-inventing luxury private travel in Cape Town...and that's
just in his spare time.
We'd call him driven, but in most cases
he does the driving [which keeps him close to his clients] and makes it
all look so damn easy.
As a highly trained accountant he doesn't
mince his words or opinions when it comes to bright marketing ideas. He
says it as he sees it and makes it happen before the ink even dries on
the paper of his dog-eared notepad.

BRAND HOOLIGANS MC profile: Sean O
If you're lucky enough to find yourself in Stellenbosch between 6 and 9 on a weekday morning, slam your stereo tuner to 92.6 FM and experience the morning drive-time radio rock show that you've searching for since losing your viginity in the back of a Cortina. Between spinning tracks from Empire of the Sun, Zebra and Giraffe and AC/DC, Sean O is the voice of MFM and a rapidly rising star in the entertainment industry.
Pictured here on the right, Sean O's celebrity status ensures that there aren't too many photographs of him that exist without models being included in the shot. He's assured us that he'll give them all the slip, take on a crafty disguise and disappear off the radar long enough to host this week's BRAND HOOLIGANS marketing conference.
