Morph returns to the streets of London

Morphmob

If like us you grew up in the 80s - you'd be a big fan of Twisted Sister and Morph, the plasticine creation of Britsh artist Tony Hart.

A couple of months ago, an army of morph characters staged a flashmob outside London's Tate Modern as a tribute to Tony Hart who recently passed away.
It was pretty much single-handedly because of Morph and Tony Hart that an entire generation even learnt to draw and it's only now that we fully appreciate what it must have taken to produce those frame-by-frame shows.

If you don't know who Morph or Tony Hart are - here's a little trip back in time - The Amazing Adventures of Morph.

More pictures here.

All Blacks will soon have the names of their fans stitched into their rugby jerseys

Allblacks

Did you know - that the All Blacks are so dedicated to their fans that they are inviting them to submit their names, which will...

...literally be engraved onto a thread that will form part of an All Blacks jersey. Fans can submit their name, which will be etched via nanotechnology onto the Adithread, as well as sharing their ‘This is Not a Jersey’ mantra via the website www.thisisnotajersey.com.
The thread will be stitched into the fern badge of an All Blacks jersey which will be presented to captain Richie McCaw, and the virtual thread with all of the submitted names is be available to view online. [via]

Nice idea - too bad the entire population are now going to be feeling every single big hit Bakkies Botha dishes out on Richie McCaw when he returns from injury, as a result [voodoo doll style].

SA's Battle of the Bands takes the fight online

Hp At Stellenbosch they used to have a kickin' Battle of Bands competition every year in the dark, skanky corridor just outside The Neelsie.
The concrete venue kinda added a nice reverb onto any wayward, over-powered and mistimed guitar riff, sending the members of the makeshift moshpit into an excited frenzy, which just added to the live appeal of the event.

Times have changed, The Neelsie is now a shopping mall [sniff] and the Battle of the Bands has embraced digital access and gone online.

Sarah sent us a heads up about the HP Design Your Personal Life Battle of the Bands competition. If you're a wannabe rock star, this may be your chance to get your stuff off MySpace and into an arena that could win you fame and glory, coke and chicks.

It all ends with the Top 5 public voted bands taking an international stage, which will be hooked up with the rest of the world via satellite broadcast. Worth playing for?

It's a nice way of getting more people to discover new bands - but doesn't come close to the experience of stumbling over them in a smoky, pewk and pee saturated pit.
