Beer for the connoisseur
After selling their start-up, local coffee hotspot vida e caffe, Rui Esteves and Brad Armitage could have spent their time island hopping or racing Aston Martins on the N2, but instead they're right back in the entrepreneurial ring, this time with a couple of bottles of beer.
In a country obsessed with beer made by big corporations that gets washed down with a greasy segment of boerewors, the guys chose to chase the counter-trend in this case and market a super-premium brew aimed at wine drinkers.
Each of the three beers is available in a large 750ml champagne bottle with the cork and foil packaging [which is great for dinner party points scoring value] and is brewed to be paired with different kinds of food, just like wine.
Similar to how they spread the word with vida, they're not really doing an kind of formal advertising. Their strategy is to really just let the product speak for itself and let word-of-mouth do the rest.
Because we've been so impressed with their product and the counter-trend that they're tackling - we've organised a few Cherrypicka test tickets so that you too can introduce yourself to the beer and judge it according to your palette.
For now - it's only available in the Cape Town area [branches need a license to sell beer] and you can get your hands on a ticket for the Gabriel here.
There aren't many - so if you're keen get one, be sure to do it sooner rather than later.
