World economics: New thinking is needed
Posted on 12. Apr, 2011 by Jonathan Cherry.
It’s no secret that the present ‘system’ that we consider to be how world economics is based is perhaps not as robust and efficient as it could be. In fact, if we had to eliminate [or at least radically change] the present ‘rules’ that we perceive the world to be run on – we could be experiencing a radically different life in a very short space of time.
Clearly we’ve been watching too much Fringe, and perhaps so has George Soros. Bretton Woods II? Sounds like the sequel to Inception.
Here’s more from The Guardian

Jared Leto pays tribute to Kurt Cobain
Posted on 07. Apr, 2011 by Jonathan Cherry.
There will only ever be one Kurt Cobain, but as a tribute to the singer who died 17 years ago on the 5th of April – emo-rocker Jared Leto dressed up as, and convincingly imitates, the Nirvana front man. [via]
We still maintain – that all indications point to the return of grunge to the pop culture mainstream. It may not originate from Seattle this time, but the movement will return – oh yes, the movement will return.
If you’re 17 and haven’t a clue who the hell this Kurt Cobain guy is – here’s to your education…

Getting passed all the soppy sentiment – Ball of Light is a 15 minute documentary about light painting and how it made one sales guy realise that life ain’t so bad after all.
Holograms help to warn airport passangers in the UK
Posted on 01. Apr, 2011 by Jonathan Cherry.
A couple of airports in the UK have taken the plunge to make the process of having your private life hauled out in front of everybody and your genital roughly grabbed by a strange security bloke with a a funny accent all the more enjoyable through hologram technology.
See in the UK they’re trying to do away with the need for personal human interaction as much as possible – so having a machine Barbie and Ken tell you about your pending molestation is just perfect. Marvelous.

The Greatest Movie Ever Sold
Posted on 29. Mar, 2011 by Jonathan Cherry.
We were wondering when the topic of the advertising industry would stumble into the cross-hairs of documentary film makers with an agenda – and our anticipated waiting has been rewarded by Morgan Spurlock (the guy that took McDonald’s apart in the movie Super Size Me) in his new movie called The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.
Morgan Spurlock + a movie exposing the secretive, devious inner workings of Satan’s incubator = one we have to see.

If the guys from Jackass had to do an activation

This thing feels very Japanese and seems perfect if you like your advertising communication smashing huge globs to colour in your face.

A vision of ‘the future’

Not convinced the emphasis of this promotional video should be too concentrated on ‘the future’. Think a lot of the ideas here exist and are used already.

Elfoid: A humanoid mobile phone that’s hopefully a big joke
Posted on 04. Mar, 2011 by Jonathan Cherry.
We have no idea whether this is for real or not, but all the same it’s the stuff of science fiction and cheese-induced nightmares.
Robotics researchers from Osaka University have teamed up with NTT Docomo and Qualcomm to develop a handheld humanoid phone that brings a new dimension to mobile communications. A prototype of the device — called “Elfoid P1″ — was unveiled at a presentation in Tokyo on March 3.
The Elfoid phone is a miniature version of the Telenoid R1 robot developed last year by a research team led by Osaka University professor Hiroshi Ishiguro. The current prototype measures 20 centimeters (8 in) long, is covered in a soft fleshy urethane skin, and has the same genderless and ageless appearance as the Telenoid. The control buttons are embedded in the chest, which glows green when the Elfoid is in use. [via]
More thoroughly disturbing pictures from the future here.

This video is like Merlot for your eyes. Smooth and soft with no real purpose, but you like how it makes you feel.
