Two one-way tickets to cheap booze and sunshine please mate

Even our desperate attempts to discourage tourism to South Africa with innovative ideas like the ‘kill a tourist day’ and stories about stab- proof vests still don’t seem to be having an affect in stopping the hordes of dangerous football hooligans using clever tools like the Internet to book tickets to our quiet little seaside resort.

This Google Chrome billboard was recently spotted in London – tracking the slow thoughts and keyboard action of one such out-of-control binge-drinking England supporter.

3 hours to strategise how they’re going to get into a game?

Hmmm – in this country we use something called a ticket which kinda helps when the big SAPS dude wants to feel you up without buying you breakfast first. Storming football games is frowned upon here and could land you in a place where a stab-proof vest will be thought of as foreplay.

God help that new stadium…God help us all.

Curiouser and curiouser

Considering that this was spotted in Sea Point – we’re starting to question whether the white substance that made this impression on the promenade was in fact chalk. You’ll remember the football version from last year that was linked to Puma’s association with African football. There were other versions further on, but we were running at a brisk pace at that stage and didn’t have time to stop and play Herb Ritts.

We don’t think not wearing pants in Claremont is such a good idea [it's usually a bit nippy here in Mordor], but in New York City it’s something of a growing tradition. Plus people in New York are so stuck in their personal bubbles they hardly even notice or give a damn that the person sitting next to them is pantless.

Car guards that were given the Audi R8 plan to change the world

We’re almost expecting the ‘anonymous businessman’ that granted a gift of an Audi R8 to two Cape Town car guards to reveal himself as an ABSA vehicle credit adviser in a couple of weeks, but until then – the duo have cut a hole in the bonnet of the R1.4 million sportscar and are taking donations to help others in need.

Hmmm – Top Gear are coming to town soon…Audi are making a big noise about the E-tron…World Cup?

Shocking...

Sharks are once again in the firing line today as one of the ocean ‘monster’ ‘nibbled on a Zimbabwean tourist at Fish Hoek beach yesterday. It’s not a nice story, but you take that risk into consideration when you go into the shark’s territory. Between D-grade British soap stars getting shot at by Nigerians while trying to buy coke in Strand street in the middle of the night and now this – Cape Town is a pretty dangerous place for non-locals.

Much like the sentiment in this poor print ad from American insurance giant however, it is ironic how random calls to some radio stations have called for the execution of ever last one of the sea creatures.

It’s hot today, no way anybody’s going in the sea – we all might as well go have a couple of beers and drive home.

Starbucks uses ‘love’ to screw Africa again

Having recently watched the movie Black Gold – about the economic injustices of global trade and how Western coffee suppliers screw the Ethiopian coffee growers – we are particularly disturbed about this.

Screw you Starbucks

The Starbucks ‘Love Project‘ is a pathetic, bogus marketing campaign designed to hoodwink the world into believing that Starbucks gives a damn about Africa, but is in fact just a sick PR exercise to reconfirm the perception that Africa is filled with disease and helplessness so that Starbucks can continue to rape the continent for profit. See if you’re buying raw material from a place that is doomed already then it’s ok to offer peanuts as payment.

While repressive world trade policies still exist, every single ‘help Africa’ campaign you see is just another kick to the head for a continent that really doesn’t need the Western world’s illness-filled wheat aid.

So together with a reluctance to reduce carbon emissions and a continuation of unfair agriculture subsidies – the West will carry on with their bullshit ’save Africa’ marketing stunts while Africa continues to beg.

All you need is greed – and Starbucks has heaps of that.
