Online concert streaming is the new frontier for rock
Posted on 30. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
Why play to an audience of thousands when you could be performing for millions online. This is the idea that has dawned on the world of rock – and they’re going hell for leather to milk the trend.
U2 recently performed live to the world from the Rose Bowl on YouTube, now…
…the Foo Fighters will be performing live on Facebook tonight [actually tomorrow morning South African time].
Facebook has teamed with the Foo Fighters to stream a concert live tomorrow night from the band’s Studio 606 headquarters in Los Angeles. You can RSVP to the event here, and stream it live here. [More over at Techcrunch]
A comfy sofa, cold beer, no need to queue for a nasty boerie – bandwidth aside, what’s not to love about live concerts via the web. Bring it on we say. We’ve always felt that branded content was a winner as a marketing vehicle and the reach of the Internet will make this a juicy prospect for advertisers.
iPhone AR bicycle navigation thing
Posted on 26. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
This is a brilliant hi-tech way to end your life.
How you end it all is that an iPhone attaches to your helmet via a mount; it’s connected to an eyepiece display that shows you navigation graphics; and when you turn your head, the iPhone’s compass, and the display, re-orients to follow suit. [via]
As an augmanted reality tool it would probably be pretty sick if the display was transparent, but riding a bike with one eye is not going to get you to an earthly destination in any particular rush.
Last Year’s Model: Social media campaign to save the planet ‘through sheer laziness’
Posted on 20. Oct, 2009 by Cassandra.

Great new campaign using today's social media tools
Answer us this, why do we always HAVE to trade in last year’s phone, mp3 player, laptop, or game console for something brand spanking new?
This is a questions that Anil Dash, a blogger since 1999, and a guy who helped to start Six Apart (maker of TypePad and Movable Type) has asked in a new campaign called “Last Year’s Model.”
Going by the slogan, ‘Last Years Model, Saving the Planet Through Sheer Laziness’, the purpose of the whole campaign is to “show the world” that a lot of people are STILL keen on using their ‘out-dated’ products, despite there being something newer and ‘up-to-date’ on the market.
From the website – Six sensible reasons why Dash thinks it’s better to choose to use Last Year’s Model:
-Who wants to spend time figuring out how to use a new phone?
-Wasting money on a gadget I don’t need just doesn’t seem smart
-Haven’t yet figured out all the things my old iPod can do [so true!]
-Guys camping out for PS3’s are definitely not having sex
-Because I don’t know what to do with all that damn packaging
-To save the planet through consuming less!
Seriously though, in a world that’s so concerned about global warming, and environmental sustainability, Dash’s online movement seems like a great yet simple way to showcase the silliness of us always having to replace our old working models for the next best thing.
We love this one!

Jamie Oliver recipe iPhone app
Posted on 20. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
We have a couple of dog-eared Jamie Oliver books that always adds dramatic effect to the skit that we have going, designed to make us look like we know what we’re doing in the kitchen.
If we had an iPhone however, the cream spattered books would be out the window and Jamie on demand video would be loaded right next to the Scanpan.
Harnessing iPhone capabilities, Jamie Oliver’s new cooking application solves some of the most common cookbook pitfalls with a clever interface that puts helpful images, instructions and videos literally at your fingertips. With 50 brand-new recipes that all have the kind of twists—a Mediterranean salad with avo, cauliflower cheese and chili risotto—that made us Jamie fans in the first place and geared towards beginners who don’t have a lot of time, the content matches the intuitive design perfectly. via
You can get it for $8 from iTunes

Scientists invent a battery powered by dirt
Posted on 19. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
With the looming electricity price-hike eminent, people who live in filthy houses may be onto something the rest of us could adopt.
Harvard scientists have apparently invented a battery that derive energy from naturally occurring bacteria in soil. The charge coming out of the device is strong enough to charge a cell phone or power LED lights.
Glo: The Bible gets a digital makeover
Posted on 15. Oct, 2009 by Cassandra.

It seems like those involved with the Christian faith are really trying to modernize themselves like never before. Not only are they using current and up to date marketing strategies to increase their numbers, but they are also trying to spread the word by harnessing today’s current technologies as well.
No, we aren’t talking about those limiting DVD Bibles you see on the infomercials, but rather a new product out worldwide at the end of this week called Glo.
Two smoking HOT ARGs you need to check out
Posted on 08. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
We here at Cherryflava have never believed that a social media strategy should just be restricted to having a Twitter feed and something arb on Facebook. Like all other media, creativity plays a huge role in making these potentially powerful tools really effective and remarkable.
Creating a completely immersive media experience is a good way of doing that – and here are two current ARG [alternate reality game] campaigns that are making us sweat like a serial killer in a mortuary…
