Top 10 Best Celebrity Endorsement Ads
Posted on 09. Nov, 2009 by Cassandra.

Hasta la vista, motherf*&ker?
More and more celebrities seem to be trying to get their own slice of the cake making a few ‘extra bucks’ by promoting an outside brand. We’ve seen their faces plastered alongside everything from perfume bottles, to insurance logos.
Ladies and gentlemen, the catalogue is endless, but the quality can sometimes be lacking. Some match, while some don’t.
With that said, we’ve pushed aside the crap, and have come up with our very own Top 10 list of what we think are the best recent celebrity endorsement ads; the crème de la crème if you will…
The art of food innovation: Part 2 – Heston Blumenthal’s Perfect Christmas
Posted on 06. Nov, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
Apart from being a brilliant chef, Heston Blumenthal explores the realm of designing a sublime experience in his Christmas special episode of In Search of Perfection.
Do yourself a favour – book out an hour in your diary, grab a steaming cuppa java or a shot of Jagermeister…sit back and absorb the innovative creations of this guy.
Having ourselves a keen interest in the designing of interactions we’ve been raving about this programme for weeks now – so we’re stoked to have finally found it on the web.

The art of food innovation: Part 1 – El Bulli

We’re big Anthony Bourdain fans. A copy of Kitchen Confidential lies in it’s rightful place next to a copy of The Ten Faces of Innovation and the latest copy of Monocle magazine at the Cherryflava HQ ‘reset zone’.
We connect with his hard-drinking, heavy-smoking, excessive use of foul language attitude and really enjoy the episode of his TV show in which he visits the infamous El Bulli. We unfortunately missed Ferran Adria at this year’s Design Indaba, but this short episode gives a good sense of the innovation that is part of the world’s best restaurant.
Invictus movie trailer
Posted on 28. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
So if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the trailer for the upcoming Clint Eastwood / Morgan Freeman / Matt Damon South African 1995 rugby world cup lovefest.
If this thing and District 9 go through to next year’s Oscars it’ll be a huge peg in the ground for South Africa as an international film industry contender.

Sony Twilight Football video: The final showdown in the bullring
Posted on 05. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
We’ve finally put the finishing touches to our short video that we shot at the Sony Twilight football event in Spain a couple of weeks ago. Some very nice action shots from our boys and the football was too bad either. This whole thing was shot in very fast fading light, which the XR520 camera handles remarkably well.
South Africa killed the Spanish team 18 – 3.

Black Eyed Peas ‘flash mob’ on Oprah
Posted on 02. Oct, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
21 000 dancers got the feeling from the Black Eyed Pease on the Oprah show recently in Chicago when they performed one of the biggest dance ‘flash mobs’ to celebrate the 24th season of her show.
To be honest – this wasn’t really a ‘flash mob’ in the true sense of the definition. It’s a pretty well-choreographed dance routine that just so happened to lok spontanious, but it’s cool to watch all the same.

Dog’s animated mouth rivals a last night Jaws movie marathon
Posted on 30. Sep, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
Toyota have a new ad campaign featuring Buddy – a fast talking Boxer with a bit of an attitude.
We’ve studied the press release and can appreciate the subtle connection between canine and the refined features of the car, but for &^%$ sakes this dog’s animated mouth is bloody freaky.
It’s obviouly cleverly done and the humour of the ad draws a chuckle from the studio, but nightmares are sure to be created from that freaky mouth. As we said on the radio this morning, were we the client – we would have wanted to see a few more creative recs of that mouth before hitting the GO button. It’ll probably grow on us over time, but right now it’s a channel changer.
Cristiano Ronaldo heads to Cape Town for latest Castrol ad
Posted on 30. Sep, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
Football pin-up boy Cristiano Ronaldo spent a bit of time [only 6 hours in fact] recently in Cape Town shooting this ad for Castrol.
The ad was shot in several locations; a desert scene was filmed in the Richtersveld, Namibia, Ronaldos shots in Manchester and the remainder of the commercial was shot in and around the Western Province as all extreme weather conditions can be found in the Cape.
In the short time that he was here he broke several hearts and fathered two children.
The ad is great, we love the Metallica-like backing track at 0:27 the great visuals and editing, but seriously Cristiano – as an English voice-over artist you should not ply your trade. Football…yes – voice-over…no.

If we were judging the Loeries – this would be our Grand Prix winner
Posted on 29. Sep, 2009 by Jonathan Cherry.
As a pure piece of creativity and stunning production – which as far as we can determine is the mandate of the Loerie awards – the Baker ‘Precious Biscuits’ ad done by Shy the Sun would be our pick of the bunch. It’s radical work and makes us wanna stuff our faces with wheat and sugar.
