Nakedness and wine - always a winning combination

Wine03

From our experience, a bottle or two of Spice Route Malabar or Eagle's Nest Shiraz + sunset and fresh canapés usually result in extensive nakedness after their consumption. But the Joburg Wine Show have turned things around and are promising the T&A upfront.

From the press release we were kindly sent:

The Wine Show Jo’burg in association with The Star is baring it all this year with a brand new initiative in aid of charity.  Event organisers in conjunction with Getpix Images & Photographic Academy have launched a photographic competition themed Wine Laid Bare and all entry fees will be donated to breast cancer awareness.

According to organiser John Woodward, the theme was in keeping with the philosophy of the show.  “The Wine Show Jo’burg is about stripping away all the snobbery and pretentiousness surrounding wine.  We were looking for a way to portray the fun and relaxed ambiance that has become the signature of this event and realised that the spirit of the show would be captured best in visual format.  Once we embarked on that line of thought, the appeal of a photographic competition was evident,” mentions Woodward.

The competition is open to all amateur and professional photographers.  Entries can be submitted online at www.getpix.co.za or www.wineshow.co.za from Monday, 2 March 2009.  An entry fee of R50 will be charged and this will be handled electronically at the time of entry submission.
The subsequent calendars will be sold from the Getpix stand at The Wine Show for R100, with all proceeds going to breast cancer charities.

So there you have it. If you've always dreamed of appearing in Playboy, but couldn't be bothered with having to be nice to that old pervy guy, then this could be the break you were looking for.

After the disappointment of not entering the last amateur photographic gig, which we could well have won, if there are ladies who would like to get their kit off and submit an entry, but lack access to a decent photographer - we've been known to take a handy snap or two in the past. Get in contact and we'll offer our services gratis.

[thanks Raoul]

Proposed Cape Town public transportation plan

Try and keep this one hush hush...to yourself technically.
It's estimated that we have more than enough natural sources of water to make this proposal possible and an over abundance of citizens willing to take their kit off for the greater good of the city. Bless them.

We'll take a couple of return tickets to our 10h30 in the CBD thanks.

Classic bicycling is the new Crocs

SpringbikeriderWith local petrol prices set to skyrocket by another R1 per liter on Wednesday, vehicle usage and the associated costs are now no longer a joke - and viable alternatives are seriously desperately needed.

The general perception surrounding the idea of cycling to work - or just about anywhere for that matter - usually involves lots of sweaty spandex, very expensive metal alloy-framed spacecraft looking machines and fist fights with taxi drivers.

But it seems that the re-emergence of the trend of 'cycle chic' in Western countries is really making a strong comeback.
A classic bicycle with bell, basket and normal clothing is very fashionable right now.
Accessory suppliers are popping up all over the place selling bags, baskets, stylish helmets and old-school bikes.

The opportunity to open a lifestyle lifecycle-type shop is huge in student towns like Stellenbosch and Grahamstown.
Maybe what's also needed is that city centres like the Cape Town CBD also need to make bicycle lockup areas more accessible and widespread so that the fashion catches on here too.
One to watch closely.

The coolest thing from this year's Design Indaba

Aquascape

For us the most memorable thing about this year's Design Indaba conference was the live aqua scape audio feed - presented live from Shukokuji Temple in Kyoto Japan, which was done by Shinichi Takemura.

Listen to the sound of rainwater dripping into a jar live via the power of the Internet from Japan here.

Pepsi RAW puts the openness of the Karoo back in your brandy and cola

Pepsirawad2

For a couple of months now, we here at the Cherryflava HQ have been using a rolled up paper copy of the initial announcement of Pepsi's 'all natural' cola, which they have baptised Pepsi Raw. to swat flies and test the working condition of ball point pens.

But now that their are new ads for Pepsi's virgin journey into the world of health cola, it changes everything.
Ads and an official launch mean that Pepsi RAW wasn't just a sick spoof and the world really is turning to a cleaner, more natural way of spending quality time in a rugby box.

Pepsirawad1

BTW - [unrolling fly stained paper printout] - the ingredients of Pepsi RAW includes apple extract, plain caramel colouring, coffee leaf, tartaric acid from grapes, gum arabic from acacia trees, cane sugar and sparkling water. We feel all good inside just typing that.

So what's up next? Organic real potato chips from MacDonalds - free range KFC chicken - organic health food served in the canteens of South African companies?

We are what we eat after all.

Other organic colas:
Whole Earth cola
Jones Soda
