Wrangler – STUNT ad campaign

Following on from the ‘We are animals’ campaign they started a couple of years back. The animal theme continues in STUNT.

What happened to the days where you just threw on a pair of jeans because that’s what you felt like wearing. Now you have to risk your life by throwing yourself through glass windows in your denim pant? Seems like they may be positioning the brand for the Wall Street set.

brewers

If you love good beer and fine music… as well as the best coffee in Cape Town and a pulled pork prego that you’d murder a small, fluffy kitten with a milky face for – then the Wednesday line up at Brewers is your poison.

There is no better place to be in Cape Town on a Wednesday evening.

How do we get South Africans onto bikes?

biomega

Yet again this morning in Cape Town, public transport has let the city down thanks to a huge taxi strike. It brings home the reality that we are far too reliant on external factors like the international price of oil and less than ideal transport systems that can be crippled at a moments notice.

The answer is pedal power, but how do we get South Africans to foster a culture of bike love as an efficient mode of transport?

Design Indaba are asking the question and have sweetened the deal of your participation by offering a prize of a Biomega bike for the best idea:

Tweet your inspired ideas on how to encourage cycling in South African cities before 21 March and you could win a Biomega NYC bike.

Cycling has never been as sexy as it is right now. If you don’t believe it, consider the benefits. Owning a bicycle is cheaper than owning a car. It’s completely carbon-neutral versus the enormous amount of carbon gasses produced by a car. Cycling is really good exercise and the South African climate is perfectly suited to it. Using a bicycle to move around the city also means less traffic and congestion and thus less frustration and road rage.

At the recent Design Indaba Conference, the revolutionary force behind the urban mobility movement in Denmark, Jens Martin Skibsted campaigned for more bike-friendly cities and cultures, and illustrated its desirability with a range of beautiful bikes by Biomega and KiBiSi.

So it’s great that it works in Europe but how do we go about encouraging a bicycle culture in South African cities?

“Let’s get the Twittersphere buzzing with ideas, the kinds that will encourage positive change by getting more bums on bicycle saddles. Tweet your ideas on how to make this happen and don’t forget to include the #designindaba tag. If you have more than one idea, tweet them all! And get your friends to retweet!”

And if your idea on how to promote the use of bicycle as a form of urban mobility in South African cities is the most creative, the most original and the most feasible you could win yourself a super cool NYC bicycle designed by KiBiSi.

If you need convincing on why you need to share your inspired ideas, here are the specs on the bicycle that you really want to win. Designed by innovation leader KiBiSi, the NYC has an aluminium frame and a mudguard is integrated in the down tube. Other features include a belt drive, single or eight-speed and 26-inch wheels.

And they’re only available from 2012 but you could win one long before the official release date!

“So get tweeting, and make sure you get all your good ideas out there before Human Rights Day, 21 March 2011. Remember to include #designindaba in the tweet.”

All tweets will be considered and the winner and his/her brilliant idea will be announced on Friday 25 March 2011 on the Design Indaba Twitter page, as well as on www.designindaba.com.

We spread this word with every intention of winning the bike ourselves – just so you know.

Jennifer Aniston’s viral water video

While the tragic events in Japan continue to unfold, the world of Internet viral videos featuring Hollywood stars and puppies and stuff like that continues. This all seems even more trivial than it did before Friday, but anything as a minor distraction from Sky News is welcome.

Flipbook parkour

A simple idea that captures the imagination is like finding a tropical island populated by nubile island woman and ripe papaya after being at sea for a thousand days.

This stop animation flipbook parkour demonstration is one such island.

Disney plans to [officially] use humans as lab rats

What is Marilyn trying to tell us about Mickey here?

What is Marilyn trying to tell us about Mickey here?

To understand the triggers that make humans want / need to buy stuff – the Disney Corporation has set up an advertising laboratory to understand why certain ads work.

“To get to the ‘why’ you need to be able to control things, and the only way to do that is within a lab environment,” says Artie Bulgrin, senior VP of research and analytics for ESPN.

The lab doesn’t depend on viewers’ reports of how they reacted, because surveys turn out to be somewhat unreliable, even at the most basic level, Bulgrin says.

The lab gathers biometric data on the viewers: eye-gaze tracking, heart rate, skin conductivity. That information gives insight into their reactions that surveys couldn’t capture. For the future, the lab is looking at brainwave measurements as another tool.

The concept for the Disney lab was born at a Disney ad sales forum. The Mouse and its advertisers found it was becoming very difficult to know which ads were working.

Disney has been trading in trauma based mind control for decades under the guise of children’s entertainment. The news that they are setting up a laboratory to measure the success of their programming efforts isn’t exactly surprising.

All too often, ideas like an interactive window display can be ruined in its execution thanks to – well…poor execution.

This is not the case for this interactive storefront in Paris, where literally no expense was spared to make sure that the experience of the idea was as its creator originally intended.

AB rides the umpire like a horse for Lay’s

Man we sincerly hope the Proteas win the ICC World Cup so that this image of AB de Villiers riding the umpire like a horse doesn’t come back over and over again as a reoccuring nightmare to haunt and taunt the nation that has pinned their international sporting image on his cricketing performance.

No pressure.
