We’ve posted about this thing before – but now there’s video, which makes it real. Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi is like Disneyland, but for grown men who like beer and stuff like beer.

For some reason – watching this video makes us think of Marlboro. Weird that.

State of Grace: Hostage situation plays out over two weeks within large South African company

On 1 October 2010, the employees of one of Africa’s biggest ICT organisations were sent links to a website that promised “a huge leap in business communications” using a projection of a charming client liaison avatar called Grace.

What it really offered was a leap into the deep end of a world of rampaging holograms, umbrella men, slinking LOLcats, stinking hackers, epic battles and a lot of tricky puzzles.

Hundreds of players from Dimension Data made their way through the game, which turned a dry presentation about corporate values into an epic and unforgettable quest to save the world from a hologram avatar turned eeeevil!

We here at Cherryflava are often asked about the type of work that we do in the field of commercial experience design – and this alternate reality game (or ARG) is the perfect example of how we’d turn the mundane content of a typical year-end sales conference into something memorable, engaging and effective; using multi-layered media, a great story [written by the award-winning extremely super-talented novelist Lauren Beukes] and an intriguing game involving a puzzle-filled treasure hunt played out on the Internet and in the real world with fake websites and specially filmed video sequences.

This morning’s Critical Mass

In good faith, we sent a team [ok, admittedly a small team] to take part in the Critical Mass cycle ride ths morning. Armed with a camera and a something to stop their heads exploding if they hit the tar – they returned with these piss poor photographs.

High on coffee and exhausts fumes clearly the pics were secondary to riding. We were thinking girls in lycra or at least an action shot of a rider attacted to the front of a bus, intead we get a poor reflection of what most probably was an exciting joy-ride in traffic. If you were at Critical Mass this morning, and managed to snap a photograph that is at least in focus, please send it on to us. Thanks in advance.

This Friday [29 October 2010] at 06h45 outside the Baxter or 07h15 outside the CTICC – a bunch of people who like to ride bikes will be gathering for just such an activity. Called Critical Mass – it happens in over 300 cities around the world on the last Friday of every month.

We’re going to see if we can make a turn this week.

We don’t enjoy horror films. Never have – never will.

But there are those that get off on horror. The intense excitement of slashing knives, spurting blood and freaky over-the-top strobe light flashes are exactly what they want and crave.

Look – it’s not like these films attract the talents of legends like Rocco Siffredi and Sasha Grey to help them along – so they kinda have to rely on all the gory stuff. But we are rather curious to know what it is that is creating this kind of extreme reaction in the booth. It’s not Rocco’s appearance on set – so we wonder what on earth it could be?

This movie was shot on a phone

It’s hard to believe that these crystal clear images were produced by a Nokia N8 smartphone, but apparently they are. So the next time your video production guy insists on hiring a big, over-the-top, expensive camera for that upcoming corporate video – just shove one of these cellphone / handheld Panavision phones his way and insist on a lower quote.

‘Dragonfly Love’ was shot entirely on the Nokia N8. Director Thomas Hilland and his crew were tasked to make a film that made the most of the N8’s HD camera, and the freedom of shooting on a small mobile device. Editing and special effects were added off the device, but it should be noted, the remote-controlled dragonflies are all real.

While we’re on the topic of movies to see – this is another, that did have a short stint at The Labia, but we’re hoping is soon available on DVD or online for creative inspirational viewing.

It Might Get Loud is a documentary film that explores the history of the electric guitar through interviews with and performances by Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge.

Worth it even if you do unfortunately consider Kanye West a competent musician.
