Castle Lite can’t touch it with MC Hammer
Posted on 14. Jun, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
We completely understood [and secretly enjoyed] the symbolic association between a beer and Vanilla Ice. But Castle Lite’s recent collaboration with MC Hammer, is well beyond our comprehension of relevance. This bar clearly doesn’t sell a lot of Castle Lite if the barman is so completely overwhelmed and surprised by the extra cold beverage. Surely he’d have a pair of gloves or a branded tong that could assist him in serving the extra cold bottle as part of his busy schedule of serving a popular beer.
Maybe it works for people that do, or potentially could drink Castle Lite. But we’re clearly not one of them.
What do English woman do every time the ball trickles near Robert Green?
Posted on 14. Jun, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
We never realised how pathetic the English are. You’d swear they’d already lost the World Cup and that no matter what, Sky News is determined to report the worst possible news about South Africa whenever they get the chance.
If it’s not their poor goal keeper, it’s the sound of vuvuzelas [which BTW were being blown by mostly international fans over the weekend] they they whine about. Lighten up. Relax. Stop worrying that you’ve successful run your economies into the ground and start reporting the news as it is – rather than what you want it to be.
Getting ready for our Cape Town Stadium visit
Posted on 11. Jun, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Having practiced our French – we hauled out a couple of old cellphone pics of the Cape Town Stadium to reacquaint ourselves with its magnificence in preparation for tonight’s game.

AMEN: Grassroots football
Posted on 10. Jun, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Last week we were sent AMEN by Jessica Hilltout. It’s a collection of stunning photographs that she took around Africa as part of her discovery of how Africa celebrates and plays ‘the beautiful game’.
With few words, but loads of great pictures – it’s our kinda book and we’re totally stoked that a copy was anonymously dropped into our post box. If you have intenational guests that you’d like to console when their team loses to South Africa – this is a good peace offering.
Check it out here.

Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest video
Posted on 09. Jun, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
Love the way this official video for the FIFA Fan Fest at the Cape Town City Hall has been put together [in the beginning at least]. With less than 48 hours to go before the start of the World Cup – we don’t think this country has ever been so excited for anything as much as we are right now.
A message to the Mexicans…

The Gautrain gives you wind
Posted on 09. Jun, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
We love the idea of the Gautrain. Having not been on it yet, it’s the idea of it that gets us just a tad excited, but the ad for the Gautrain…not so much.
Perhaps it’s because on the site that we found this ad – they’ve also posted the creative idea, that was most probably pitched to the Gautrain executive committee in a wood-panelled boardroom.
The commercial starts as a shot of various people standing waiting. We start with a light breeze that blows their hair and ruffles their clothing. The wind then picks up force to become a stronger wind and eventually a gale as we witness the people interacting and playing with this wind. Just as suddenly as it began, the wind drops and we cut to a shot of the high-speed Gautrain rushing by, indicating that it was in fact the train causing this wind.
After that we want to shoot ourselves – and that’s not what we get from the idea of the Gautrain, that sits like an excited five year-old child in our heads. The ad comes out better than the written bit promises, but we just fantasise about it differently.
The new iPhone 4 + ad
Posted on 08. Jun, 2010 by Jonathan Cherry.
So there’s a new iPhone, which now comes standard with video calling via iChat. So now there’s absolutely zero reason to have a personal relationship with anybody. You can Chatroulette your way through life without ever actaully having to face a real person.
In case you can’t visualise that – here’s the ad directed by Sam Mendes to illustrate the future.
We’ve never been as happy as what we are, right now. Life really is good.
