MTN starts to wind up the 2010 party

We gave the guys over at MetropolitanRepublic a call after being rather impressed with the New MTN ‘Ayoba’ 2010 TV ad that’s doing the rounds at the moment. As we lead up to the World Cup – there may be a few variations on a theme that you’ll spot of these that are more city specific.
For example – here’s Durban’s edition:
If you’re wondering what Ayoba means:
It’s an evolution of expressions like ‘ayeye’ / ‘ayoyoyo’ and was first used to express approval/appreciation of good dancing.
As with most slang words, no one knows its exact origins, but it’s presumed to have started in Joburg township culture. It means delight, excitement, agreement, approval or can be used as a greeting/goodbye.
It is uniquely South African.
Now you know some South African. Use it!

Seriously, did they close long street for that?
Love the LCD TV in the Ayobashaw.
