We understand very little of this website, cause it’s in French and we took Xhosa instead at school, but the production values of the thing is impressive.
Made for a French television channel – this promotional website has a dark and somewhat attractive, interactive hook. You can commission the murder of your friends online by uploading a photograph of the person you want to be assassinated. Freaky.
Once uploaded to jetueunami.com (ikillafriend.com) your friend’s face was superimposed onto a character in a film, the unwitting victim was then able to watch a video of their murder taking place. There are several hitmen to chose from and many methods of doing the job – sniper rifle, accident, a standard gun, or a Japanese samurai sword, Kill Bill style.
In the meantime, the victim receives an email warning alerting him that he has just been assassinated and can watch a film of his grisly death! Adding a further level to this vicious encounter, the victim can then investigate to figure out the ‘friend’ who commissioned their murder, also discovering the motive of the crime and getting their own back by putting them behind bars. The experience had been designed to give a taster of a criminal investigation, helping with 13ème RUE’s aim to ‘unleash the investigator in you’. Even if it is a bit gory, we love the concept – even wishing that there was a further ‘real-world’ aspect to it. Over 19 million people have played so far.
