OMEGA 3
Although the SABC can barely afford to broadcast them, there are some really great ads made by South African ad agencies.
We’ve compiled this list of those that we think deserve to be showcased as the best South African Ads of 2009 to date.
With such good work as inspiration, hopefully we can see an improvement in some of the other attempts at product flogging:
#10 VW Jetta ‘Sand’

This is what happens when you leave your car windows open in Muizenberg

Nice list, with the exception of “Single Ladies” (it makes me barf, I think I have a mental block against Vodacom advertising thanks to their rodent thing).
My top 10 would have to include Mweb’s Lost (for Inge Beckmann on vocals alone), VW’s Lucky the Cheetah and Momentum’s Seconds – very inspiring!

South Africa produces some brilliant ad’s – some of the agencies in the UK could learn a few things… but i guess there are only so many ways to advertise car insurance, travel insurance, household insurance, child insurance, foot insurance, underpants insurance…
How did “brand power: helping you buy better” not make it onto the list? if I had a shotgun I would have blown my TV to telly heaven thanks to those clowns.
I think its extremely lazy to rather make use of obnoxious advertising techniques like irritating music or lyrics to make a product stick than making an ad that you dont mind watching again. I will rush home in hope that they will screen “high five for germ free hands” during WWE all evening.

Thanks Coda – we forgot about the VW ‘Lucky’ ad to be honest. It would be in the top 5 for sure.
