Human Antennae: the ‘roaming’ listener

Human Antenna - Carpet Radio
Swiss designer Florian Kräutli has come up with an interactive carpet radio. Oooo.
Instead of working like a traditional radio, Kräutli’s uses a human being as its antennae. If the listener wishes to change the radio station, he or she can simply walk around the carpet until they have found their station of choice.

In order for this to work, the Human Antennae is made from looms of conductive thread.
Seems simple enough, but what if you like the show you’re listening to, but can’t stand being in the same position any longer? Or, what if you’re trying to hear the last few moments of a 2010 World Cup soccer match but you’re desperate to make a quick dash to the bathroom, or to the fridge for a beer? Last but not least, what happens if you aren’t alone and someone else wants to come and join you on the carpet?

It’s an interesting concept, but unfortunately there seems to be one tad too many floors flaws.

I think this would be a great idea at airports and train stations where you have to hang around for ages with nothing to do – something for the thousands of south africans waiting on Earsfield and Wimbledon station

Would suck though for all those people trying to catch a bit of shut-eye before their next 10 hour flight – OMG can you imagine the noise?

This actually reminds me a bit of the walk along keyboard in the movie ‘Big’ with Tom Hanks. Now that was cool!
