Although people have been pedaling around now for centuries, biking seems to have really taken off in the last little while; especially within the western world. 

More and more people are using their bikes to commute to the office, Urban bike sharing companies in both Europe and North America have taken off, and now it seems that accessorizing the two-wheeler is the newest trend.

Yes yes we know that bike accessories like gloves, water-proofs, and helmets have been around for ages, but lately it seems that bikers will no longer be caught dead using normal panniers or simple padded pants.

Following on from our previous 'fashion advertising' posting sparked by a certain Marie Claire ad – Cherryflava has now been granted the honour of this print ad [courtesy of Net#work BBDO Cape Town - thanks guys] which was printed in 'The Voice' this morning.

Word of Art (a Cape Town-based creative agency) – who also organised that 1000 Drawings project last week – sent us a heads up about 'Left over soup' which is happening this Tuesday at the Royale Eatery in Long Street.

Hey, if you’re hungry for some left over’s be sure to join us on Tuesday at Royale, as we host an opening for the upcoming show, "left over soup". It's a group show of artists and their left over work from our past show "group soup".

Milk advertising innovation – sounds weird but maybe isn’t

The South African Diary Board have commissioned FoxP2 to create a series of TV ads to promote the health benefit of drinking milk without the vodka and Kahlua combo added. We chatted about the first one 'Chicken' with Aden Thomas on CapeTalk last Wednesday. If you haven't see it yet – here it is.

It's a pretty different take on how milk is generally loosely regarded and we like it loads.

The America 'Got Milk' campaign is now an advertising icon – over the years the list of celebs joining the milk-fest has frothed and foamed as it has swollen. Wonder how successful it still is for them?

Am I Collective: Bid for a ‘Bare’

Am I Collective has paired up with a handful of artists to design their latest project for charity. 

Similar to the 'Cow Parade" in Cape Town, or 'The Moose in the City' campaign in Toronto, Am I Collective have gotten a handful of artists to personalize their own version of "The Bare", a 40cm tall figure that's [you guessed it] shaped like a bear.

After displaying these mini-statues in a number of galleries across the globe, Am I Collective will be auctioning them off and donating the proceeds to child welfare.

A couple of the designs include, 'The Weekend Warrior', 'Ganesha Bare', 'Bare Metal', and Bare Bare.'  You can take a look at them on the Am I Collective Website.

To us, some of them look a wee bit freaky – so not really something you'd want to put next to Little Janey's bed at night – but it's still a really great cause.

Roll-Out Veg Mat: For green-thumb wannabes

If you've always wanted to make your own vegetables and herbs but you don't have the time or patience to spend your whole weekend in the garden, than this new product is right up your alley. 

In order to appeal to us hopeless green-thumb wannabes, UK designer, Chris Chapman has created a roll out, easy-to-grow vegetable/herb garden.

The Roll-Out Veg Mat is primarily a corrugated piece of cardboard, filled with seeds and some necessary nutrients.  All you need to do is lay the mat out onto your garden bed, do a little bit of watering [we're assuming], and wait.

New VW Ad: ‘But Dude, where’s the car?’

We're sure that most of you have seen The Big Lebowski, but have you seen the new VW Dudeism ad?

In an attempt to support independent cinema, or possibly just a new alternative religion, VW has focused their new advert on a man so 'inspired' by Lebowski's character, that he's started his own religion worshiping the lifestyle and beliefs of The Dude" himself.

The ad was comical in a quirky, 'lets take a look at some Trekkies at a Star Trek convention sort of way', but after watching it we were left with a couple of questions:

1.) What does the Dude have to do with VW

2.) Do we really care that VW supports independent cinema?  

3.) And finally, 'Dude', where's the car?'
