We had to check the date a few times to make sure that this story is not an April Fool’s gag, but as far as our editorial checks go – it seems legit enough.
A company by the name of Lifestyle Pets have re-engineered the tired old cat and dog to produce brand new products for a modern lifestyle.
How’s this…they’ve invented a hypoallergenic cat, which sounds handy.
The Ashera is apparently a hybrid cat [so it's light on fuel] which is a cross between three diffenent types of exotic feline. It resembles a leopard, but will still eat Whiskas and murder the family dog a mouse from time to time without making you sneeze and itch.
Costing between $22 000 and $125 000 it better bloody well shake a killer martini and pack the dishwasher as well.
The company also offers a dog called the ‘Titan Family Protection Dog’ which is a nice new marketing spin for a German Shepard, but when you fly to the office in a helicopter why would you get the family pet from the SPCA.

We’ve stunbled upon a very nice bandwidth-blasting collection of ads, which were all created under the supervision of various famous Hollywood directors.
Personally we think they’ve overlooked one of the best examples recently done for Nike by Guy Richie.
Thankfully they do have Tony Scott’s 2002 masterpiece done for BMW [remember the BMW films?] which at the time – and still now – is a cracker. Gary Oldman should always play the devil.

The Simpsons did it in Vanity Fair last year and now Wallace and Gromit have stepped into the shoes of Posh and Becks in a new advertising campaign for fashionable UK store Harvey Nichols.
Wallace is pictured for the campaign looking suave with trendy designer
sunglasses perched on his head and with his hands in the pockets of an
Alexander McQueen navy cashmere and silk suit. He also wears a Dolce
& Gabbana fitted white shirt and a Giorgio Armani tie.
Wallace and Gromit hail from Bristol so it made sense for the Harvey Nichol management to choose them as their pop culture icons for the launch of their their newly opened store in Bristol, England. []
Different, tongue-in-cheek…excellent.

Most ‘viral’ ads are made on a shoestring budget on purpose. Many are cheap and nasty and in most cases they don’t really do much for the brand they’re trying to promote, but rather supply a mildly entertaining video clip for people to enjoy and forget.
But this viral ad for the new Samsung Omnia i900 is more on the money. A great production and a welcomed twist in the usual Gizmodo-type gadget unboxing video. []

Looks like the cola wars are back on.
Coke have just launched Coke Zero here in South Africa and apparently it’ll soon be joined by Red Bull Cola! Touted as the ‘natural alternative’, it’s set to rock the party at the Coke / Pepsi house.
If it does to Klippies what its older cousin has done to vodka, we may have a new sundowner companion. []

The smaller sports brands, Speedo and Puma, upstaged Nike and Adidas by gambled big and selecting a small elite group of athletes to sponsor during the Olympics. But lucky for them…their selection included Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps.
Mr. Bolt’s success sent interest in Puma soaring, as online chatter
about the brand soared 64% during the games. Nike and Adidas saw
relatively modest surges of 18% and 17% apiece, despite dramatically
outspending Speedo and Puma and sending a small army of high-profile
athletes to Beijing to help hawk their wares.
Sadly, nobody is talking about Asics or South Africa this morning.

Unlike the World Cup in Germany not too long go, we haven’t picked up on many innovative marketing stunts during this year’s Olympic games – so it’s with some relief that we now stumble across a few.
Mini [apparently on purpose] have created these bike-powered Minis to promote themselves during the tournament. The same could perhaps happen here in 2010, but the half-a-car idea will probably be done out of necessity rather than some clever marketing idea.
Samsung gave Olympics’ fans a chance to view all of the action from their own "private" alien-like pods.
We’re not sure about the enjoyment of using a snug fitting headpod after some sweaty dude has just personally viewed the woman’s beach volleyball in the Beijing heat [nasty dot com], but an interesting idea all the same.

Morning coffee during the drive to work is a quiet, relaxing time spent with a few foot-tapping, sing-a-long Slipknot tunes and a take-away latte.
But lately, our coffee receptacle is starting to look like Times Square. A subtle reminder of the premium brand we’re enjoying is acceptable, but all these other logos and messages on every available space on the little cup…it’s a bit much.
Come to think of it, we’d pay extra just to have the pleasure of not being sold something before the morning intake of caffeine.
Nerds and Virgins should patiently wait their turn for attention later in the day.

Ever thought the idea of the power of the Internet being stuck in a small box is a bit old-school.
Well here’s an interesting device, which delivers the power of relevant information to a handy mobile gadget.
Choose a building and touch a floor and it tells you more details of the building.
Well, it doesn’t have to be a building, but it can be any object you
see. You can use it when you want to know a car model, an insect name,
what kind of food is served at a restaurant and how much, who built a
bridge, etc. etc. But as a designer myself, I hope it’s able to tell me
a name of a font of the type I see, the size, color (in RGB), and so on. []
It’s just a concept now, but one of set to change the way we interact with information. [thanks Martin]

Ad which ran in most of the Saturday papers to celebrate Percy’s 100th test.
Done by Jupiter Drawing Room from Sasol.
Good thing it was all fun and games before the test. [Thanks Jeff]
More evidence as to why the Springboks lost so badly on Saturday after the jump…actually, before you get your knickers in a knot this all happened in Jo’burg, the Friday before the Argentina
game, especially so that the Boks did not lose focus before the All Blacks game.
Perhaps the boys should wear blonde wigs more often then.
