Giant Crayola crayons, Thursday evening drinks and sporadic trips to Ratanga Junction used to do the trick – but pesky employees are evolving and it’s getting more difficult to get them to open up and deliver the creative goods on demand.
So what’s the trick to creating a culture of innovation within an organisation?
Experts suggest:
Hire naive misfits who argue with you; encourage failure; avoid letting
client input limit your vision; and fully commit to risky ventures.
Hire people who argue with you? Failure is good? Clients shouldn’t meddle and head for rough water….willingly?
Eish, when did things get so complicated and tricky?
But in today’s environment where ’safe is bad’ – perhaps this strategy, which is not taught at traditional management schools, is the more flexible route to follow, even if you’re not running a design firm.
