iCatching: That's Professor Hilton to you

Parishilton

- Tagged and released jailbird, Paris Hilton has been asked by The Learning Annex to speak at the Real Estate and Wealth Expos in Seattle, Chicago, New York and Boston. The celebrity has been offered $1 million to lecture class on “How to Build Your Brand.” for one hour.
Shocking but sadly true.

- Along with a whole MBA course worth of lessons in marketing - the launch of the iPhone in the US has highlighted an intriguing development in the future of news. Welcome to the birth of live, video citizen reporting.

- The South African department of transport has launched a radical new train in an attempt to lure executive businessmen away from their BMWs. The Soweto Express is said to be a 'luxury' alternative to road transportation. But in reality it's a repainted, suburban train with curtains, better seats, Internet plug points, but alas...there are no toilets on board.
Let's hope it's fast, or things could get messy.

I pity those people who took up PhD and other post graduate courses just to master the art of branding. Now, here comes a convict. And she will be paid $1M for her lecture!!! Don’t you guys ever realize that she’s just making brands famous because she’s already famous – for both good and bad acts – not because she’s an expert on it? Let’s take it this way, what do you think will happen to those endorsed products if she weren’t Paris Hilton? Or let’s try giving those perfumes or whatever to someone else. What I’m trying to say is $1M is totally absurd.

I read an article about Paris Hilton as a brand a few months ago, which made a lot of sense back then, more so now...
She's much smarter than she acts. She's built herself up as a strong brand. Just take a look in any mall and you can see the influence she has. Which I'm not complaining about, because she's spawned lots of underdressed girls who are ummm willing (bonus to guys everywhere), just noting.
She's not what she seems to be. The things she does appear to be planned and calculated rather than blundering from one mistake to another.
So if she's going to lecture, good for her. She probably knows more about marketing than your average IMM grad...
