Happy Birthday M&Madiba

It’s South Africa’s most famous citizen’s 89th birthday today. So there will be many print ads flying around newspapers today sending public messages of goodwill.
A small. Cape Town-based agency, World War Won [stylin' name that], has created a Mandela-themed print ad from a kids playground of M&M’s.
The idea is clever, creative and was clearly constructed by a patient and passionate team – but we also enjoyed the honest e-mail that was sent to us with these pics…
howzit guys. my name is warren lewis, i have a microscopic sized
agency in the lower slums of cape town. This weekend we constructed a
portrait of Madiba out of 8 400 M+M’s for
to be used for a print commercial. thought you may be interested in
seeing some of the pics. have attached a few but check out the video
here…
enjoy your day
The original sugar mosaic measures 128 x 155cm and will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
This is a good example of that ‘foosball culture’ we were talking about the other day.

Sweet. In so many ways.

Why is there no mention of BBDO Cape Town who commissioned the work for their corporate client Masterfoods? This article gives the impression that World War Won came up with the concept and art direction themselves.
They did a brilliant job, but this job belongs to BBDO…

We were not aware that BBDO was involved. If they were – then props to them too.
