Joburg to Cape Town in 2 hours by train
Wouldnt that be something? Sure you can fly to Cape Town/Joburg in 2 hours or less but consider the cost which can be up to R2 000 or so per person, return. Imagine making that trip by train instead for considerably less (ok, I am guessing on …

Wow! Had my hair standing up.
I’ve written my own mini-study on what it would take to build a supertrain from Cape Town to Joburg.
The major benefit is of course that it would actually take less time by train… (2 hours, 40 minutes with a 5min stop in Bloemfontein. Technically 30 minutes more, but no check-in required)
My estimate of passengers were based on half the current flyers using it, and my estimate of costs was based on Gautrain (per km). (It should be cheaper)
If these estimates are correct, it should take 6 months to pay off the entire project, excluding maintenance costs (I have no idea what they would be)
