iCatching: Google is the world’s no.1 brand

Googlelogo – It’s official – Google is now the world’s number 1 most valuable brand.

The rankings, compiled by market research firm Millward Brown, also put
Google ahead of well-established brands like General Electric Co., No.
2; Coca-Cola Co., No. 4; Wal-Mart Stores, No. 7; and IBM, No. 9.

Not bad for a company that’s basically built its brand via word-of-mouth.

‘Girls of the Playboy mansion’ starlet, Holly Madison is featured in their new ‘I’d rather go naked than wear fur’ ad campaign. [huh?]
This chick would rather go naked than do just about anything else. She lives in the Playboy mansion for crying in a bucket.
There is no remarkable message here people! Those PETA marketing people are clearly smoking all the fur they save.

The Sowetan, a Johannesburg-based newsapaper, is flighting an ad which is getting handbags flying and tempers flaring.

Playing on the famous Dr Martin Luther King ‘I have a dream speech’ – the ad seems to have hit a bit of a nerve with South Africans.

…and apparently, just like in Nigeria, your opinion will count. Fancy that?

Yes indeed, the ringleaders of the One Awards in New York [probably the biggest and most respected advertising awards, behind Cannes and the Loeries (cough...cough - gag..splutter)] – invite you, the poor public who clearly don’t get to see enough advertising, to choose your favourite ads from the best the world has to offer.

South Africa naturally has a good crop of entries on offer, some of which we’ve never seen before.
We can only suggest that some of the agencies used the ol’ ‘flight it once at midnight on SABC1′ in order to clear the qualification red tape that usually goes along with submitting really edgy work (that no client not stoned on crack would buy) to these things.

Seriousness aside though – some of our favourites from the past year are there and a browse around the nominated work is worthwhile if you enjoy the look and feel of unadulterated capitalism.

BmwplaneIn a move, which will most certainly make the sky more unsafe and stressful for pilots of slightly slower planes – BMW and Boeing have collaborated to produce a conceptual 787 aircraft interior for a fictitious, affluent, South African Russian client in his mid-thirties.

DesignworksUSA says it sat down with a blank sheet of paper and
endeavoured to describe a day in the life of the owner, to examine the
needs of a client that spends a significant amount of time travelling
across the globe and needs an aircraft that can function as a second,
luxurious home.

We would have sent them both back to the drawing board.
In our opinion the interior looks like it was designed for a 50 year old woman, not a 30-something rich kid. Bar’s too small, too much white and brown and where on earth are the TVs?
