7-Elevens to be turned into Simpsons shop to promote movie
Posted on 29. Mar, 2007 by Jonathan Cherry.
In an inspired move, Fox Entertainment is constructing a deal with 7-Elevens across the US, to temporarily convert their stores into Kwik-E-Mart’s [the convenience store brand in the Simpsons] to promote the upcoming Simpsons movie.
Apparently fans will also be able to buy items inspired by the show, like KrustyO’s cereal, Buzz Cola, and iced Squishees.
Sounds expensive, but could be a hoot.

Wonderbra are on the money with this sharp outdoor execution from Paris. Simple, subtle and cheap – lovely.

in the Use of Internet category for the Big

What works in Denver may be odd in Hillbrow
Posted on 29. Mar, 2007 by Jonathan Cherry.
In a shocking judgment call, Denver transit directors voted to allow M-rated games to be advertised on public transportation around the city.
Almost as soon as the ink was dry on the law that permitted the decision, Rocksta games had already plastered this bus with a GTA ad…specifically brainwashing young children to purchase and enjoy their Vice City Stories edition.
Hence the snappy title to this post. If only all we had to worry about was the violence of the ads posted on the bus.

– At first, advertisers wouldn’t touch New York’s Jewish quarterly, Heeb magazine.
It was wrong and naughty. Now that everyone reads it – maybe they could slip in double page spread. [Read: Marketers, gingerly, bite at parody bait - NYT]

More tour company ideas
Posted on 28. Mar, 2007 by Jonathan Cherry.
Yesterday it was Go Cars, today…see the city via Segway.
Also found in San Fransisco, The San Francisco and Sausalito Electric Tour Companies offers tours of two of the world’s most beautiful cities on the world’s most unique transportation device: the Segway!
Groups see parts of the city with a tour guide which costs roughly $70 (R500) per person for the experience. They now also offer night trips to various spots which sounds like a plan for a pub crawl.
At $70 it sounds a bit pricey, but beats the hell out of walking. [Thanks Isobel]

Get mugged
Posted on 28. Mar, 2007 by Jonathan Cherry.
Two Cape Town brands have teamed up to make sure you get mugged.
Vida and Biblioteq are hosting a coffee mug design competition with ‘organic’ as the theme. [thanks Misha]
The detailed brief on how you can get involved and, most important – what you can win…is above.
We’d like to think that this collaboration was as a result of vida and Biblioteq meeting and falling in love on Cherrypicka.
Entries close 6 April – so you’re going to have to hurry.
[BTW - if you need some creative inspiration to get you going with your award winning idea, we still have a few Biblioteq test vouchers to get you going]
Cool business idea: Take yourself on a guided tour
Posted on 27. Mar, 2007 by Jonathan Cherry.
Just in time for the quick, forward-thinking entrepreneur and the 2010 World Cup – here’s a cracking idea that has Cape Town written all over it.
Instead of a poor, bewildered foreign tourists trying to understand how to connect with the N2 via the M3 off the M5, while dodging Toyota Supa 16s in a Golf Chico 1.4 with a map – perhaps a talking GPS guide would be a better, less stressful option.
An innovative business idea from San Fransisco is the “first ever storytelling car.”
The GoCar looks like a tiny yellow
two-seater car, but is actually a three wheeled moped. Two people can
hop in, and are required to wear helmets. An on-board computer and GPS (global positioning system) serve as a
back seat driver, directing the humans in front to places that few
visitors get to see, along with the famous sites. The system provides
running commentary in a choice of five languages, allowing tourists to
motor along at their own pace, exploring places a tour bus can’t go,
and stopping for lunch, photos, or shopping whenever they like. The GPS
tour guide will make suggestions for good stops and direct the driver
if he or she gets lost. As the company says, the GoCar is “a tour
guide, a talking car, a trusty co-pilot and a local on wheels.”
We can already see thousands of these things, covered in every flag on the planet, whizzing around the Cape Peninsula come 2010. Great idea.
