MTV free their videos and most of their staff

MtvlogoNews is that after millions of dollars in legal fees have been spent trying to get their content off file sharing sites like YouTube, MTV have announced a change of heart, and now want to distribute their shows on the Internet.

In the next few months, Web users will be able to grab videos from
nearly all MTV-owned sites and post them on their own blogs or Web
sites, lessening the need to go to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com),
the top online video service that Google Inc. acquired last year.

We weren’t even aware that MTV still existed – so the news about their comeback is rather moving.

Coupled with their Web 2.0 makeover, the Viacom brand is also in the process of killing off most of their ageing staff.  Poor sods – so close to retirement too.

We’ve got a funny feeling this might just be too little too late.

iCatching: Apple now designing bikinis

Sad, and unfortunately ensuring that the poor bloke remains single and a dedicated reader of the magazine forever.

Viagra spam meets The Matrix

ViagraspamYou’d think the world’s number 1 selling prescription drug didn’t really need any advertising, but spammers think otherwise…and so, are increasingly developing more creative executions to sell their product.

Here’s one we received just this morning…and is perhaps another example of brand collaboration, which we wrote about yesterday.

These two have clearly been taking way too much Viagra, judging by the particular shade of blue they seem to have turned whilst trying to find that special something in the rabbit hole.

But why stop at The Matrix, perhaps synergy with other movie titles could also work:

  • Viagra + When Harry met Sally – "I’ll have what she’s having."
  • Viagra + Star Wars – "The force is strong with this one"
  • Viagra + In the heat of the night (1967) – "They call me Mister Tibbs!"
  • Viagra + A few good men – "You can’t handle the truth"
  • Viagra + Jerry Maguire – "Show me the money"
  • Viagra + Top Gun – "You’ve lost that loving feeling"

CobradedBrand collaboration is nothing new, but advertising collaboration is perhaps one of those marketing areas, which advertising agencies have never been keen on.

You go try convince a new agency to even consider continuing an old ad concept, successfully executed by their predecessors…. and watch their collective creative lips quiver and drop. Mixing and matching foreign brand positioning and creative executions is a big no no.

But this Swimsuit Illustrated + Mineral water billboard collaboration really does seem to work.
Individually they they’re not that noticeable, but shove a huge straw between the two and – hey presto – both look intriguing.

SpreadtheloveLove it or loath it – the world of retail seem to push harder for sales during Valentine’s week than they do even for Christmas.

Roses and condoms suddenly become triple their normal price, while last year’s fluffy puppy; who’s now all grown up…looks like a T-Rex and just took a giant dump on the front lawn, gets shipped out to the SPCA and replaced with this year’s cute, bouncing version.

Thankfully the Internet will once again deliver salvation from these numerous problems.

Spread the love is free, fun, crafty, South African and to the point. But don’t be fooled by big rip-off corporate imitations that may distract you.
