Is Mango really that bad?
Posted on 04. Dec, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry in Uncategorized
Ever since its rather colourful and fruity launch a month or so ago – we haven’t read anything good about poor old Mango Air.
Mango service ‘is pathetic’
Mango ‘doesn’t do refunds’
No mango for me
…mango, mango, mango.
What’s the deal? Is it really that bad?
We’ve never flown with this airline, but something smells a little off here.
Did SAA launch this airline to take a bit of heat off its own brand. Why is there so much bad press about the Mango. What – no happy flying news?
It is a ‘budget’ airline after all, so are we opting to pay budget prices and still expect a 1st class ride?
Maybe the marketing hype has inflated everyone’s expectations. If you want to be on time and get little mint during you flight – then cough up proper money and fly a proper airline.
If you’ve got time on your hands and your life cover is payed up, then go the cheapie route.
But don’t expect the world and then bleat like a pregnant ewe because nobody helped you with your bags when the plane crashed. Sheesh.

I have flown about 4 flights with the new airline and have never had a bad experience. Their 737’s sure feel a hellava lot safer and newer than the MD80/90’s that Kulula and 1Time are flying and I have always had a suspicion that ACSA give SAA (and now Mango) preferential take off slots during heavy traffic periods, so although there have been delays I’m sure (mostly due to their heavy flight schedule I think in the long run they will have less delays than their partners.
What has not been a good sign is how empty the planes have been. They have obviously stuck to a strict pricing structure so as soon as the tickets went to R999 people just stopped buying. It would have been much more intelligent to just make it all very cheap at the beginning to get the traffic in the plane.

And on another note, at least as far as FLYSAA is concerned and I am sure that Kulula and 1Time are the same, You have never been able to cancel a ticket. In fact Mango at least allow you to change your booking (which flysaa never has) and you can merely change you flight on the site without speaking to a sales rep like the other budget airlines.
There is a change fee and usually the flight is more expensive but as we know it is BUDGET AIRLINE!

I’ve flown Mango Airlines, 1time & Kulula. They’re pretty much the same, except Kulula has the edge because of their onflight humour. Mango flights are only better when they’re cheaper.
