Guerrilla coffee art studio

If you wonder into the Greenpoint Vida e Caffe in Cape Town hoping to catch a quiet smoke and a shot of caffeine – be aware that your existence and presence at the busy coffee shop may be captured on canvas…. forever.
Until 24 November – the store has been transformed into a portrait studio.
‘Guerrilla studio’ is driven by the unpredictability of an active environment to shape an artwork.
100 blank canvases have been arranged on a wall in Vida. The work, entitled ‘Heartbeat Two’ then evolves
over a three week period, as the blank canvases are replaced with
portrait studies of people in the space. While exposing the art making process, the project also allows people
to engage with it. Visitors are invited to add to the collective
journal of the project and to choose where to place their portrait
within the evolving heartbeat.
At the end of it all, the works will be sold to the public.
So when you see paints and colours and fun in the shop – they’re not for you big boy. Someone’s working there.
Nice shoppertainment idea.
