Bagvertising
Posted on 24. Oct, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
Shopping bags are such an obvious space for retailers to get some free brand milage. Just so sad that most seem to waste the opportunity.

Get a job
Posted on 24. Oct, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
Slowly but surely these Web 2.0- things are starting to emerge in South Africa.
Just the other day we were reading about employment referral sites in the US and the UK as a hot new web trend – and now it turns out that there’s the very same thing here as well.
Employmint (great name) is a job referral site where you can refer friends and family for jobs and earn cash rewards.
At the moment it seems to have more IT-type jobs than anything else, but hopefully soon positions for paid assassins and space suit engineers become available – so that we can refer people that we hang out with too.
No indiction really as to what percentage of salary you’ll earn as a headhunter, but there is apparently over R500k of rewards available.
Lets see how this one goes then…

PC vs Gisele
Posted on 24. Oct, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
Those silly PC vs Mac ads, that they insist on streaming at the Apple stores, are set to continue.
But this time featuring Gisele Bunchen as a Mac home movie and someone, who looks like Chris Pontius from Jackass, as the PC home movie.
Is it just us, or does this campaign need an upgrade?
See it in Hi-res or on YouTube.

Containership multi-plug
Posted on 23. Oct, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
Having permanently remodeled a toe on a drab, sad, white, nasty looking power adapter just this morning – our pain, and bad language, would not have been in vain had we rather connected with the bow of this containership multi-plug.
Until electricity goes wireless, this decorative conversation piece is clearly the way forward.
Note how the wires – when positioned just right – can form the wake from the boat.
Undersound: Music sharing goes underground
Posted on 23. Oct, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
Music sharing seems to set to break free from the shackles of the Internet.
Undersound is planning a system, which will allow travelers on the London underground to share the music on their cellphones via a bluetooth network. So in addition to a full nostril of smelly body odour, you can also get a new tune or two from your fellow train commuter.
The idea for Undersound is that people can transfer songs via Bluetooth
(using public domain, non-copyrighted, royalty-free or creative
commons-friendly music, of course) to a "transfer point" at a
particular station. Then others can come along with their own mobile
phones and pick up some new tunes as well, leaving a trail of metadata
behind them, begging to be analyzed — in a good way.
Great idea, but we can see loads of additional applications for this kind of technology.
- Imagine a network was set up at the Kirstenbosch summer concerts. After the show – a free sample track can be made available for everyone to download.
- ‘Access points’ could be installed at strategic points on the road networks. Sitting in traffic would be the most rewarding thing you’d do with your morning.
- Emerging bands could load networks with sample tracks.
- Why stop at music – video files are also fair trade in this environment.
Only a matter time before ‘web’ thinking jumps free of computers.

VW Citi Golf brand turns 21
Posted on 20. Oct, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
Along with Mrs Ball’s chutney and Niknaks, the Citi Golf brand just won’t go away.
The little tyke has just turned 21; and apart from a few new local safety laws questioning certain design aspects of the car – its still going strong. Its one of those things that if you’ve never owned a Citi Golf can you really call yourself a South African.
Born in the mid-80′s, VW have morphed the Citi brand into loads of different sub-brands over the years – starting with the red, yellow and blue version and this ad, which takes us back to the real glory days of the local ad industry.
The Alex Jay voiceover, the big-budget smoke props, the facination with American instruments of war – nostalgic.
Couple of years from now, students will be driving R20 000 Chinese cars that will come with a free Blogger.com subscription.
Twister duvet cover
Posted on 20. Oct, 2006 by Jonathan Cherry.
With the holiday gifting season approaching faster than a Soweto train surfer – we’ve made it our mission here at Cherryflava HQ, to search for some exciting things to pamper and thank our team for the year’s relaxed attitude to work.
This Twister duvet cover we might just keep for ourselves though.
It comes with matching pillowcase, a set of dice and hopefully a small handbook to guide us through the basics of how to play. Then again – its perhaps self-explanatory.
We’re still on the search for a duvet Monopoly for the accountant and celebrity edition Trivial Pursuit for the Jetstreaker team.

UPDATE: If the duvet cover is not enough, then you can also throw a Karmasheetra into the mix. If you really want to. [Thanks Wesleigh]
