WineIf wine, to you, is more than just a vehicle for getting totally rat-faced and ending up in the bushes – then, you’re unusual.

Be that as it may, the Internet is a place of wonder and convenience and amazingly there are a couple of websites that can assist in developing your addiction.

WineLog is a collaborative wine rating, sharing (in the internet
sense), and tagging site designed to help you keep a record of wines
you’ve tried and discover new wines.

It’s very much focused on the American market, but they do have a few South African wines listed and rated that you can help support.  Set up an account and you’ll never forget about that Cabernet that blew your mind over the weekend.

Another site to check out is Cork’d. A very similar set up to WineLog- guess it just depends which one lifts your skirt higher.

Membership to both sites is free – so that you can spend more money appreciating your grog. [via TechCrunch]

A recent article in an Australian newspaper stated that superstar Ronaldinho earns more each year than the entire
Socceroos team.

Ronaldinho has
overtaken David Beckham as the world’s highest-paid player, with
annual earnings of $38 million. The Australian side likely to take
the field against the cup holders are paid just $36 million a

Now with players earning more than the GDP of most small African countries – it stands to reason that their wives and girlfriends have to compliment their superbrand lifestyles [NSFW].

It’s all business and a carefully crafted mix of elements that come together to make football the world’s no.1 sport.

Cars

It’s not normal for a serious financial brand to promote itself by hooking up with a cartoon. But US insurance giant, State Farm, has teamed up with the stars of Cars – the new Pixar movie, in their new ad. [via]

There’s clearly a trend developing whereby brands hook up with other brand friends to develop themselves either in new markets or to change perceptions through the association.
Why, just yesterday we reported on the new Nike + iPod deal that was clearly done so that Apple could plug into Nike’s huge client base.

It seems that a brand collaboration can be stronger than it’s individual parts. Nobody can do everything alone – perhaps a partnership with another is the answer?

So far in South Africa we’ve had:
Klippies and Coke
Mrs. Ball’s and Simba chips
Jacob Zuma and Shabir Shaik

See – this kind of partnership can clearly be profitable for both.

Wow – You / Huisgenoot must be paying him a whack of cash to put his virginity on the line like this. Then again, Namibian jails are fairly empty so maybe he’s just looking for a tidy place to sleep.

Surfski paddling in Durban is not for sissies

Whoa!
Durban is an ideal place to take a paper-thin, R7000, fibreglass boat and slam it through 6ft walls of water. Don’t let the name of the craft fool you, surfkis are really not designed to take this much punishment and it can be a humbling experience to get a couple of tonnes of saltwater pumped quickly into your lungs.

Nike + Apple share sweat equity

If it wasn’t bad enough having to pant along in a tough half marathon surrounded by happy, bouncing, plugged-in iPod freaks, Apple and Nike have announced a deal that sees the giants making running shoes that
will tell the wearer how far and how fast he or she has run and
how many calories they have burned.

The instant information will come from a miniature Apple
Computer Inc. iPod and a new wireless system called Nike+iPod.
Good name – not going to forget that when you report it stolen to your local copshop.

So now instead of the beat of road, you can sync your road training to ‘Eye of the tiger’ with distance.

The connector kit will be available in both Nike and Apple
stores in the US within two months, the companies said, adding that Nike
will also sell nano iPods, but Apple will not sell Nike shoes.

Apple will also include a Nike Sport Music section on its
iTunes music store, which will feature playlists of well-known
athletes such as Armstrong, the companies said.

The Nike+iPod system will let runners call up a favorite
song instantly and then instantly upload their workout
information to a Nike Web site, www.nikeplus.com, where they
can share the information with their friends.

Have to admit it – collaboration in this case really makes sense.
